HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/02/2017AAT OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER June 2, 2017 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager SUBJECT: General Information Notable Items The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced this week the City will receive $300,000 in grant funds to conduct a community-wide inventory of potential hazardous substances and petroleum impacted brownfield sites as well as develop strategies for cleanup and reuse. In November 2016, City Council approved the City’s application and agreement with Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., to process the grant application and if awarded funding, implement the grant components. This grant is the first step to promote economic development through brownfield site revitalization efforts. The City will work with a consultant team from Stantec and a local steering committee to identify sites for assessment. The focus areas will be brownfield-impacted areas within the City’s Economic Opportunity Areas of Downtown, Mt. Vernon/58 industrial, and the Municipal Airport areas to coincide with ongoing revitalization efforts and promoting redevelopment using a range of incentives. This program is one of the many tools the Community Development Department is using to support revitalization and reuse in our community. Attached you will find the monthly Thomas Roads Improvement Program (TRIP) Status Report for the month of June. The report gives a summary of each TRIP project in construction, in design, and under review. Completion percentages and pictures of projects are also included. Traffic Advisory Reconstruction of California Avenue from Oak Street to South H Street Beginning next week, the City will begin a project to reconstruct the roadway on California Avenue from Oak Street to South H Street. Traffic will be reduced down to one lane in each direction. In addition, access to side streets may be affected. On- street parking will also be prohibited while reconstruction is occurring in these areas. Detours and alternate access points will be provided during these closure periods. This will result in traffic delays, so drivers are advised to use caution and to take General Information June 2, 2017 Page 2 alternate routes or allow extra travel time through this area. All work on this project is scheduled to be complete in August 2017. For more information, please contact Robert Voyles, Public Works Construction Superintendent, at 661-326-3049.
