SOIL CEMENT POND LINING
METHOD 1
1. Excavate to lines shown on the grading plan minus the subgrade thickness of 9"
2. Neatly grade the subgrade so that depth of section can be assured.
3. Develop an onsite plane table for stockpiling and mixing of soil and Portland cement matrix.
4. Spread Type 11 Portland Cement at a rate of 11.5 pounds per cubic foot of stockpiled material
(10% by dry weight of 115 PCF soil).
5. Roto -till, pug mill or by other means thoroughly mix the cement into the soil to create a
homogenous mixture.
6. Place mixture in uniform lift over canal bottom and sideslopes.
7. Grade, roll and compact the soil cement matrix to finished grade as called on the grading plan.
Roller is to be smooth faced and vibratory. Minimum compaction requirement is 92% per ASTM
D1557.
8. Trim side slopes with grader mounted slope blade or grade -all. Remove or roll down any loose
material.
9. Water soil cement matrix in multiple light waterings to prevent runoff or erosion. Total applied
water shall be 3.6 pounds per square foot (water to cement ratio of 0.55). Adjustment of water
may be necessary pending determination of in-situ moisture.
METHOD 2
1. Excavate to lines shown on the grading plan.
2. Vertically rip the pond bottom and side slopes to a depth of 9 inches or 0.75 feet.
3. Bidirectional disk -plow the top 9 inches until the soils are completely broken up and
homogeneous.
4. Spread Type II Portland Cement at a rate of 8.6 pounds per square foot of finished surface (10%
by dry weight of 115 PCF soil).
5. Roto -till, pug mill or by other means thoroughly mix the cement into the soil to create a
homogenous mixture.
6. Grade, roll and compact the soil cement matrix to finished grade as called on the grading plan.
Roller is to be smooth faced and vibratory. Minimum compaction requirement is 92% per ASTM
D1557.
7. Trim side slopes with grader mounted slope blade or grade -all. Remove or roll down any loose

8. Water soil cement matrix in multiple light waterings to prevent runoff or erosion. Total applied
