A September 20th article, attached below, on the Calpensions.com website entitled
“Cities urge CalPERS to help ease staff, pay cuts” discusses the complexities of a
recent request by State Sen. John Moorlach, R-Costa Mesa to the CalPERS board.
The article highlights the measures some cities have taken to meet the growing
pension obligation and summarizes opposing points of view.
Today, the Bakersfield Police Department was at South High School. Representatives
from several specialized units attended both lunch hours to make contact with
students to share information regarding professional opportunities within the police
department.

State Route 58 connector to Southbound State Route 99 this Sunday in Bakersfield for landscape maintenance. The Westbound State Route 58 connector to Southbound State Route 99 will be
closed on Sunday, September 24, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Police Department will be assisting the California Highway Patrol for a car seat
check event from 10am to 1pm at Babies R Us, 9280 Rosedale Highway.
In honor of National Coffee Day (Friday September 29, 2017), Target is hosting
several “Coffee with a Cop” events for the Bakersfield Police Department. The
following are the list of times and locations scheduled:

o 10AM-12PM- Northwest Promenade located at 9100 Rosedale Highway

SUBJECT: Historic Route 99 Signage

Staff from both the City Manager’s Office and Public Works Department will work with
the Kern County Historic Preservation Society on the installation of Historic Route 99
signage. In addition, staff will help the Society with permits necessary for the installation
and maintenance of the signs within the City’s street right of way.
Councilmember Rivera referred that City staff work with

Staff worked with the Bakersfield Homeless Center, as part of the Freeway Litter
Program, to clean the interchange beginning Monday, September 18th. In
addition, staff requested Security Paving, contractor for the Beltway
Operational Improvement Project, to clean the areas within their construction
zone at the interchange prior to September 20th.
Councilmember Parlier referred that City staff clean
around the freeway exit at Ming Avenue before the beginning of the Kern County Fair.

CONNECTOR CLOSURE
THIS SUNDAY IN BAKERSFIELD
The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces a closure of the Westbound State Route 58
connector to Southbound State Route 99 this Sunday in Bakersfield for landscape maintenance.
The following closure will be in effect:
