HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/16/1976 MINUTES CCBakersfield, California, August 16, 1976 Minutes of a recessed meeting of the Council of of Bakersfield, California, held in the Council Chambers Hall at 12:05 P.M., August 16, 1976. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hart, by the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: Absent: with of water rights and operations and requested that The City Clerk called the roll as follows: Mayor Hart. Councilmen Bleecker, Christensen, Medders, Rogers, Sceales, Strong Councilman Barton. Scheduled Public Statements. Lucile Wake, 2010 Cherry Street, addressed the Council a prepared statement regarding the Bond Issue for purchase the Council Deferred Business. Adoption of Ordinance No. 2289, New Series, of the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California, ordering, calling, providing for and giving Notice of a Special Election to be held in said City on November 2, 1976, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said City a proposition to incur bonded indebtedness by said City for acquisition of a certain Municipal Improvement and consolidating said Election with the Statewide General Election to be held on said date. Upon a motion by Councilman Rogers, Ordinance No. 2289, New Series, of the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California, ordering, calling, providing for and giving Notice of a Special Election to be held in said City on November 2, 1976, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said City a proposition to incur bonded indebtedness by said City for acquisition of a certain Municipal Improvement and consolidating said Election with the Statewide General Election to be held on said date, was adopted by the following roll call vote: Ayes Councilmen Bleecker, Christensen, Medders, Rogers, Sceales, Strong Noes None Absent: Councilman Barton the City of City followed withdraw from the business of selling water. Adoption of Resolution No. 62-76 of the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California, approving the Tax Statement to be mailed to voters within the City. Upon a motion by Councilman Rogers, Resolution No. 62-76 of the City of Bakersfield, California, approving the Tax Statement to be mailed to voters within the City, relating to the General Obligation Bond Election to be held November 2, 1976, was adopted by the following roll call vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bleecker, Christensen, Medders, Rogers, Sceales, Strong Noes: None Absent: Councilman Barton Adoption of Resolution No. 63-76 of the City of Bakersfield, California, authorizing certain of its members to file a Written Argument for a City Measure. Upon a motion by Councilman Rogers, Resolution No. 63-76 of the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California, authorizing certain of its members to file a Written Argument for a City Measure, relating to the General Obligation Bond Election to be held November 2, 1976, was adopted by the following roll call vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bleecker, Christensen, Medders, Rogers, Sceales, Strong Noes: None Absent: Councilman Barton Councilman Rogers thanked Ms. Wake for appearing before the Council and pointed out that some of the statements were not accurate; however, these items would all be brought out before the election to give the taxpayers an opportunity to make their choice. He further stated that the acquisition of the water rights was probably one of the most significant actions taken by the City and the taxpayer would not be required to contribute to the cost of the acquisition. 212 Bakersfield, California, August 16, 1976 - Page 3 Upon a motion by Councilman Sceales, the Council recessed the meeting at 12:20 P.M., until Thursday, August 19, 1976, at 4:00 P.M., for a joint public hearing of the City Council and the Bakersfield Redevelopment Agency.
