RESOLUTION OF THE BAKERSFIELD CITY COUNCIL
REMOVING DAVID STRONG AS A PLANNING
COMMISSIONER AND DIRECTING THE CLERK'S OFFICE TO
OPEN RECRUITMENT FOR A REPLACEMENT PLANNING
COMMISSIONER.
WHEREAS, David Strong was appointed by the City Council to the Planning
Commission in 2009 as the Ward 1 appointment; and
WHEREAS, since Mr. Strong's appointment, he has diligently served as a
Planning Commissioner and faithfully executed his duties; and
WHEREAS, in early December of last year, Mr. Strong notified the Community
Development Director that he is unable to continue serving as a Planning
Commissioner and requested that staff provide him with a resignation letter for his
signature; Staff did so, but it has not been returned; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Strong has not been attending Planning Commission
meetings, and his regular absence can impact the Commission's ability to
conduct business when other Commissioners have to recuse themselves from an
item or they are absent; and
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Section 2.28.030D allows the City Council to
remove a Planning Commissioner at any time by an affirmative vote of five
members of the Council; and
WHEREAS, given Mr. Strong's expressed interest in resigning from the
Planning Commission, it is appropriate for the Council to remove Mr. Strong from
the Planning Commission, effective immediately, and direct the clerk's office to
open recruitment for a replacement Planning Commissioner.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated
herein by reference.
2. For the reasons stated above, the Bakersfield City Council removes
David Strong as a Planning Commissioner, effective immediately.
3. The Clerk is hereby directed to open recruitment for a Planning
Commissioner replacement.
