A presentation and the agreement will be presented to the full City Council at the Council’s January 10, 2018 meeting. Lieutenant Townsend stated staff visited Newark, New Jersey for a firsthand experience with the ShotSpotter Technology. There are various locations throughout the city which will benefit from the installation of the reporting sensors. The sensors will be located on public and private property; ShotSpotter will coordinate with all parties directly. The processes will begin in January and is expected to be completed by late February of 2018. Training will be provided to personnel of the Bakersfield Police Department and the District Attorney’s office. Chief Martin added that a future agreement with the Bakersfield City School District is being developed as several schools are within the Program area.
