A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 3, THE "WATER
SUPPLY AND WATER QUALITY ACT OF 2018".
WHEREAS, The City of Bakersfield, like many other cities across the state
seeks to improve the reliability and sustainability of its water supply; and
WHEREAS, in many instances the water challenges faced by the City of
Bakersfield are of regional and statewide interest; and
WHEREAS, the Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018 qualified for
the November California Statewide ballot as Proposition 3; and
WHEREAS, these grant funds could result in significant cost savings for cities
and ratepayers, healthier watersheds, and improvements in both water supply
and quality for urban areas; and
WHEREAS, if passed, Proposition 3 would make available $8.9 billion in
general obligation bonds to fund projects for SGMA implementation, stormwater
treatment, wastewater recycling, watershed restoration, water conservation,
infrastructure repair, in addition to other programs of importance to our city and
other local agencies; and
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated
herein by reference.
2. The City Council formally endorses Proposition 3, the "Water Supply
and Water Quality Act of 2018"and encourages residents of Bakersfield to vote
for the measure in November.
