2. PUBLIC STATEMENTS
Cathy Butler from the Downtown Business Association presenting on volunteer
opportunities and downtown activities such as the opening of the new Portrait of a
Warrior Gallery, First Fridays, Second Saturdays, and other activities.
3. ADOPT AUGUST 6, 2018 AGENDA SUMMARY REPORT
Motion – Tate Turner, Ward 2 Commissioner
Second – Jasmine Garza, Ward 5 Commissioner
Motion unanimously approved.
4. NEW BUSINESS
A. Nomination and Selection of the the Commission Chair and Vice Chair
Commissioner Turner self-nominated for Commission Chair, Commissioner Whitlock self-
nominated for vice-chair. Motion by Sadie Aleyna Young, second by Eric Miranda
Motion unanimously approved.
B. Presentation from the Bakersfield Police Department’s Community Relations
Unit an overview of outreach services and youth activities
No action taken
5. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Garza would like to know how to get sidewalks installed near
Independence High School near McCuchen and Old River Rd. citing student safety
concerns
