COMPACTION OF SUBSEQUENT BACKFILL WITHIN TWO AND ONE-HALF (2-12) FEET OF FINISHED
PERMANENT SURFACING GRADE SHALL RE ACCOMPLISHED BY TAMPING AND/OR ROLLING AS SPECIFIED
ABOVE. WHERE THE TRENCH IS WITHIN THE PAVEMENT ON STREETS THE BACKFILL WITHIN TWO AND
ONE-HALF 2-12 FEET OF FINISHED PERMANENT GRADE SHALL BE COMPACTED TO NINETY PERCENT N%.
RELATIVE COMPACTION.
SUBSEQUENT BACKFILL PLACED BY TAMPING ANGOR ROLLING SHALL RE FREE FROM STONES OR LUMPS
EXCEEDING THREE 3 INCHES IN GREATEST DIMENSIONS VEGETABLE MATTER OR OTHER
UNSATISFACTORY MATERIALS.
IN NO CASE SHALL JETTING M ALLOWED FOR BACKFILL COMPACTION WITHIN THE STREET. WHEN
APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER, JETTING MAY BE USED IN NONSTREET AREAS.
SACKFUL TESTING AND COMPACTION: TESTING OF BACKFILL MAMRWS AND COMPACTION SHALL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 19.'EARTHWORK'AND SECTION" TESTING, OF THE STANDARD
SPECIFICATION, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS. EACH
