Notable Items
•Join us on June 12th at 9:30 a.m. as we break ground on the final construction phase
of the Centennial Corridor Project. The event will be held atop the newly constructed
Mohawk Street exit bridge, providing an excellent view of the future freeway corridor
and its connection with the Westside Parkway. Please see the attached invitation for
directions.
•We hope you will also join us for the grand opening of the Kaiser Permanente Sports
Village Stadium on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. This new amenity is fully gated
and will be available for any field sport by reservation. The field features some
stadium seating, a scoreboard, premium lighting, football goal posts and soccer
goals, and is watered with reclaimed water.
•The current class of Bakersfield Fire Department academy recruits completed their 8
mile Memorial Run yesterday morning from the Olive Drive Fire Training Facility to the
Station 15 9/11 Memorial statue. The pride, commitment, and responsibilities of
becoming a member of the Fire Service, and the BFD are instilled in the recruits
throughout the academy and during this traditional run. The academy complete next
week and the recruits will continue their probationary process as members of crews
at BFD stations.

•Last Thursday, May 23rd, the Bakersfield Police Department participated in acommunity policing discussion covering the topic of deadly force. The event was held
at Compassion Christian Center and hosted approximately 55 community memberswho were given the opportunity to observe the Force Options Simulator and discuss
tactics and case law.
•Last Saturday, May 25th, the Bakersfield Police Department hosted the first ever Scout
Day for all local scout troops. The day was comprised of a tour for each incoming
scout of the department along with demonstrations from specialized units. A total of
170 scouts attended.
•This past Wednesday, the Bakersfield Police Department held the 15th Principled
Policing class was held for staff and a limited amount of community members. This
monthly mandatory training is designed to engage staff in difficult conversations
regarding implicit bias and community perceptions of law enforcement.
•Just yesterday, several members of the Bakersfield Police Department participated in
the annual Special Olympics Torch Run. This annual Law Enforcement Torch Run is
designed to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

•See below for a photo of the recently completed stamped concrete on the roundabouts along Oleander St.
•All pools open on Tuesday, June 4th for general swim from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. daily.Admission is $1.00 at Silver Creek, MLK and Jefferson Pools and $4.00 at McMurtrey
Aquatic Center. Season passes are available for all pools, all summer for a cost of$49.00/person or $160 for a family pass for four people.
•Next Friday, June 7th marks the kick off for
the summer movie series hosted by the
Recreation and Parks Department. The
first movie, Spider-man Into the Spider-
Verse, will be shown at the Park at
Riverwalk at approximately 8:00 p.m.
•Please join City staff and the Youth
commission for “Speak Out, Sing Out”, an
information fair that will be held prior to
the start of the movie also on June 7th at
the Park at River Walk from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
This mini fair is an opportunity for teens to
learn more about city services, share feedback, and get involved in more City
programs. See the attached flyer for more details.
•Beale Band concerts featuring the Bakersfield Municipal Band begin on Sunday, June9 at 7:00PM. Concerts are free to attend and take place weekly on Sundays through
the month of June. Attendees are encourages to bring chairs or blankets.Refreshments are available to purchase.
•The Recreation and Parks Department held the first of three community workshops to
discuss the development of a new park in the Linell-Brahma area. This City is applyingfor a Prop 68 grant for this purpose and is soliciting feedback from the community on
what they would like to see. The workshop was well attended my local neighbors.

24th Street Improvement Project – E Street closed until June 4
E Street between 22nd Street and 23rd Street is expected to remain closed until June 4.
Motorists can detour around the closure by using F Street. The closure is needed for
drainage work.

Event Notifications
The City of Bakersfield is applying for a Proposition 68 grant for new park development
in a Ward 1 neighborhood located just west of Union Avenue between Pacheco and
Panama. The public is invited to provide input at three community meetings held at
6800 Brahma Street on the following dates:
o June 1st, 10:00 a.m.
o June 12th, 10:00 a.m.
The grant is due August 5th and award announcements are expected in early 2020.

NOTE: If raining, there will be no street sweeping service and all street cleaning personnel will be
assigned to cleaning plugged drains and part circle culverts. This also applies when a large
number of street sweepers are in Fleet for repairs. Areas that have been missed during this time
will be swept at the end of the month only when possible.
