AMENDMENT TO MASTER DRAINAGE STUDY
FOR SEVEN OAKS BUSINESS PARK
TO INCLUDE PM 12166 PHASES 3, 4, & 5
PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to develop a detailed drainage plan that provides adequate
drainage facilities for Parcel Map (PM) 12166 Phases 3, 4, and 5 located within the
Seven Oaks Business Park (SOBP) east of Windermere Street. The proposed storm drain
system is an extension of an existing system studied per the Amendment to Master
Drainage Study for SOBP to Include VTPM 12135 dated November 12, 2014 (Study).
The proposed system will tie-in to the existing 36” stub studied as Reach 33 in the VTPM
12135 Drainage Study Amendment.
Hydrology and hydraulic analysis were completed for the areas and reaches associated
with PM 12166 Phases 3, 4, and 5. The overall tributary area draining to the ultimate
basin has not changed and the ultimate required volume remains adequate. The areas
from PM 12166 Phases 3, 4, and 5 are within the tributary area studied to discharge into
the 48” storm drain main in Bolthouse Drive, so the existing pipes per the approved
Study are still adequately sized. The hydraulic grade line (HGL) at the junction for the
36” stub to the north across from Benchmark Court in the VTPM 12135 Drainage Study
Amendment was used to begin the hydraulic calculations (see attached).
CALCULATIONS
The parameters outlined in the Master Study were used for the calculations in this study.
The 5-year flows in the gutters were calculated to check curb overtopping. In accordance
with the gutter flow chart attached with the hydrology calculations, the Q that can be
carried in a gutter with a 0.20% slope and a 6” water depth is 5.3 cfs. Inlet 3 has the
largest 5-year total flow of 1.17 cfs entering the inlet from two directions; therefore, the
proposed 6” curb and gutter are adequate to handle the 5-year flow.
The HGL at the junction for the 36” stub per the VTPM 12135 Amendment was used to
start the hydraulic calculations. The HGL includes freeboard of 0.5’ at catch basins and
manholes and a freeboard of 1.5’ at stubs to future parcels in accordance with City of
Bakersfield Standards. All pipes will be Class III reinforced concrete pipes (RCP). A
Manning’s “n” value of 0.013 was utilized per the City of Bakersfield Standards for
RCP.
The catch basins were sized by using the City Type “A” Catch Basin parameters to solve
the nomograph for capacity of curb opening inlets. Standard 3.5’ wide openings are
adequate for all catch basins.
The ultimate basin from the Master Study has been partially constructed to contain the
runoff from the existing portion of the Seven Oaks Business Park that has been
constructed. The basin will need to be expanded to at least 84% ultimate capacity
incorporate the runoff from PM 12166 Phases 3, 4, and 5. As construction of the Seven
Oaks Business Park continues, the ultimate basin will continue to be expanded until it is
at full design capacity.
CONCLUSION
The proposed storm drain system will carry runoff from the site to a previously studied
48” main that discharges into the existing drainage basin previously designed in the
Master Drainage Study. This study shows that adequate drainage facilities can be
provided for this portion of the SOBP in accordance with City of Bakersfield standards.
