GENERAL
A. All work shall be performed in accordance with
applicable sections of the California Building Code
Current Edition
FOUNDATIONS
A. For allowable soil bearing values refer to the Krazan &
Associates Soils Report KA No. 022-15112, Dated 10-26-15.
CONCRETE
A. Materials:
1. Reinforcing: Deformed ASTM A615, Grade 60.
2. Cement: Portland Cement, Type II, ASTM C-150.
3. Aggregate: ASTM C-33,
4. Water: Clean and Drinkable.
B. Concrete Mix Design For Footings and Well Grouting:
1. Class "B" Concrete, 2500 PSI 0 28 Days.
2. 5.0 Sacks of Cement (min) per Cubic Yard.
3. 1 1 /2" Ag regate (max).
4. 4" Slump ?max).
C. Admixtures: Only as approved by the Engineer.
MASONRY
A. Materials:
1. Concrete Block Masonry Units: ASTM C-90
2. Reinforcing Materials: ASTM A615, Grade 60
deformed.
3. Admixtures: Only as approved by the Engineer.
B. Mortar:
1. Strength: Type S, 1200 PSI 0 7 days and 1800 PSI
® 28 days.
C. Grout:
1. Strength: 1500 PSI ® 7 days and 2500 PSI 0 28
days.
2. Concrete block masonry units shall be dry and
clean before grouting operation.
3. "Wet -setting" of the first course of block will be allowed.

1. PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION
THE CITY CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION DEPARTMENT AND
THE PARKS DEPARTMENT SHALL BE GIVEN 24 HOURS
NOTICE.

1. BLOCK TYPE: MORTARED CONCRETE BLOCK 24. SOIL HEIGHT OVER TOE OF FOOTING
SIZE WALL: 6"x 8"x 16" TO BE IGNORED FOR PASSIVE
COLOR: STANDARD GREY PRESSURE. SOIL HEIGHT OVER TOE
PATTERN: RUNNING BOND SHALL NOT EXCEED HEIGHT OF
RETAINING. SEE NOTE 3.
2. ALL STATIONING DATA WAS CALCULATED AT PROPERTY/ROW LINE.
3. HEIGHT OF WALL SHALL BE 6'-0" MIN. MEASURED FROM GROUND AT
HIGHEST SIDE OF WALL.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEARING & GRADING
THE AREA ALONG THE WALL LINE.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AND PROVIDE ALL PERMITS REQUIRED
BY C.O.B. BUILDING DEPARTMENT AND/OR PUBLIC WORKS DEPT.
6. ALL SURVEYING REQUIRED SHALL BE PROVIDED INITIALLY BY

7. BEARING SOIL SHALL BE COMPACTED TO 90% OF MAXIMUM DRY
DENSITY AS DETERMINED BY A.S.T.M. D-1557 TO A DEPTH OF
12 INCHES BELOW BOTTOM OF FOOTING.
8. WATER PROOF SURFACE WITH 1/4- THICK ASPHALTIC WATER
PROOF COATING OR APPROVED EQUAL AS PER CITY STD. NO.L-8
COAT ONLY THAT PORTION BELOW LOT PAD GRADE DOWN TO FOOTING.
ALL OTHER SURFACES ABOVE THE FOOTING SHALL BE SEALED WITH
A CLEAR WATER SEAL SUCH AS "AQUA -SEAL", OR APPROVED EQUAL.
9. EXPANSION JOINTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN EACH PILASTER
IN ALL WALLS, AND A MAXIMUM DISTANCE BETWEEN EXPANSION
JOINTS OF 60' IN WALLS WITHOUT PILASTERS.
10. BLOCKS AND BRICKS SHALL BE SET ON GRADE, TRUE, PLUMB
AND STRAIGHT. CURVES SHALL BE LAID OUT ON NO GREATER
THAN 8 FOOT CHORDS.
HORIZONTAL MORTAR COURSES ON BLOCK SHALL BE
1/2" :f:1/8". ALL REINFORCING STEEL SHALL BE TIED FIRMLY IN
IN PLACE PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF BLOCK. OPEN END BLOCK
WILL BE ALLOWED IN GROUTED CELLS ONLY. NO BROKEN BLOCK
WILL BE ALLOWED. ALL CONSTRUCTION OF NON -MODULAR PIECES
SHALL BE DONE WITH SAWCUTS.
11. BLOCKS SHALL BE UNIFORM IN TEXTURE AND COLOR.
12. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY LOCATION OF UTILITIES PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF WORK AND
NOTIFY ENGINEER IF CONFLICT WITH UTILITIES EXIST. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR REPAIRS TO DAMAGED UTILITIES CAUSED BY HIS FORCES, BUT NOT COSTS TO RELOCATE
IN THE EVENT OF PROPER NOTIFICA-TION AHEAD OF THE CONSTRUCTION.
13., ALL PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, INCLUDING SHORING AND BRACING OF WALL, SHALL BE
PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR, ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENT THAT FULL HEIGHT GROUTING
METHOD IS USED.
14. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF ANY SIGNAGE, SUBDIVIDER SHALL SUBMIT TWO COPIES OF
SUBDIVISION IDENTIFICATION SIGN PLANS TO THE BUILDING DIRECTOR FOR REVIEW AND
APPROVAL PURSUANT TO BMC SECTION 17.60.110 (N). ONE COPY OF THE SIGN PLAN SHALL
ALSO BE SUBMITTED TO THE PARKS DIVISION FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL. SIGN PLANS
SHALL INCLUDE COPY, DIMENSIONS, COLOR, MATERIALS, LIGHTING, ANCHORAGE AND LOCATION
OF SIGN(S). APPROVAL OF THESE WALL PLANS BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DOES NOT
INCLUDE APPROVAL OF ANY SIGNAGE.
15. FOOTINGS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE WIDTH SHOWN ON THE PLANS BY MORE
THAN 2". ANY FORMWORK NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THIS FOOTING WIDTH
SHALL EXTEND BELOW THE FINSIHED TOP , OF GRADE AT LEAST 16" OR THE
DEPTH OF THE FOOTING, WHICHEVER IS LESS.
16. AN OPEN STREET PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD PUBLIC WORKS DEPT. FOR ANY WORK PERFORMED WITHIN
EXISTING ACCEPTED STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY. UNLESS SECURED BY A
SUBDIVISION AGREEMENT, A DEPOSIT BASED UPON AN APPROVED ENGINEER'S
ESTIMATE SHALL BE POSTED PRIOR TO ISSUANCE OF THE PERMIT.
17. ANY WORK CONNECTING TO EXISTING PUBLIC FACILITIES FROM PRIVATE PROPERTY
WILL REQUIRE AN ENGINEER'S ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK IN THE EXISTING PUBLIC
RIGHT-OF-WAY TO ESTABLISH THE NECESSARY DEPOSIT.
18. ALL PROPOSED WALLS TO BE OWNED AND MAINTAINED BY
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
19. NO PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTIONS WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE WORK IN THE UNDEDICATED ROADWAYS IN THIS
PROPERTY UNTIL A SUBDIVISION PERMIT HAS BEEN OBTAINED
20. UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT SHALL BE CONTACTED TWO (2) WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.

21. COMPACTION TEST NOTE - COMPACTION TESTS SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
DEVELOPER/SICDIBIDER/CONTRACTOR. THE NUMBER AND LOCATION OF REQUIRED TESTS SHALL BE
DETERMINED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
22. ANY ITEMS IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY THAT ARE DAMAGED OR DO NOT MEET CURRENT STANDARDS SET
BY THE PUBLIC WORKS WILL REQUIRE REPAIRING AND/OR UPGRADING AS PER CITY ENGINEER.
23. MAXIMUM SLOPE RATION FROM BACK OF SIDEWALK TO FACE OF WALL OR STRUCTURE SHALL BE 4. 1, EXCEPT
FOR TWO FEET BEHIND THE SIDEWALK WHERE THE MAXIMUM SLOPE SHALL BE 29.. ALTERNATIVELY, THE CITY
ENGINEER MAY APPROVE CURBING BEHIND THE SIDEWALK OR OTHER METHOD TO PREVENT EROSION ONTO THE
SIDEWALK.
