GENERAL
1. CONTRACTOR WILL FURNISH ALL MATERIALS, TOOLS, LABOR, EQUIPMENT AND
SUPERVISION NECESSARY TO COMPLETE INSTALLATION.
2. IF THE PROJECT IS SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE NATIONAL POLLUTANT
DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM (NPDES), A "NOTICE OF INTENT" (NOI) TO COMPLY WITH
THE TERMS OF THE GENERAL PERMIT TO DISCHARGE STORM WATER ASSOCIATED WITH
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY (SWRCB ORDER NO. 2009-009-DWQ AS AMENDED BY ORDER
2010-0014-DWQ AND ORDER 2012-0006-DWQ) MUST BE FILED WITH STATE WATER
RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD IN SACRAMENTO BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF ANY
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY. COMPLIANCE WITH THE GENERAL PERMIT REQUIRES THAT A STORM
WATER POLLUTION PLAN (SWPPP) BE PREPARED, CONTINUOUSLY CARRIED OUT, AND
ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION DURING NORMAL CONSTRUCTION HOURS.
WASTE DISCHARGE IDENTIFICATION (WDID) NUMBER 5F15C391216 HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE
STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD FOR THIS PROJECT.
3. UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT (USA) SHALL BE NOTIFIED AT LEAST 2 WORKING DAYS
BEFORE CONSTRUCTION. TELEPHONE 811.
4. CONTRACTOR TO CALL FOR USA LOCATE AND POTHOLE ALL MARKED UTILITIES THAT CROSS
OR ARE WITHIN 5' HORIZONTAL DISTANCE OF SEWER AND STORM DRAIN LINES. VERTICAL
AND HORIZONTAL LOCATION SHALL BE ASCERTAINED BY THE CONTRACTOR AHEAD OF ANY
EXCAVATIONS TO VERIFY THAT THE PROPOSED DESIGN DOES NOT CONFLICT WITH ANY
UTILITIES. IN THE EVENT A CONFLICT EXISTS THE ENGINEER SHALL BE NOTIFIED IN ORDER
TO REDESIGN THE ALIGNMENT. IF RELOCATION OF EXISTING UTILITIES IS DEEMED NECESSARY
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE COMPENSATED FOR INSTRUCTED RELOCATION. IF REDESIGN OF
THE ALIGNMENT REQUIRES ADDITIONAL FITTINGS, PIPE OR EXCAVATION THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL BE COMPENSATED FOR REVISION. IN THE EVENT A UTILITY IS DAMAGED THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE WHOLLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS REPAIR.
5. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS (CURB, GUTTER, SIDEWALK, CROSS GUTTER, FENCES,
ETC.) THAT ARE REMOVED, DAMAGED OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED
AS DIRECTED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
6. ALL EXISTING PAVING AND SURFACING REMOVED, DAMAGED OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE
REPLACED IN ACCORDANCE NTH THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD STANDARD DRAWING ST-11,
EXCEPT AS NOTED ON PLANS.
7. ALL MANHOLES AND CLEANOUTS WITHIN PROJECT, INCLUDING EXISTING MANHOLES, SHALL BE
ADJUSTED TO FINISH GRADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CITY STANDARDS. EXISTING MANHOLES
MAY REQUIRE REMOVAL OF EXISTING CONE, AND REMOVAL OR "CHANGE OUT" OF BARREL RINGS.
8. ALL IMPROVEMENTS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS AND

SHALL -CONFORM TO THE LATEST REQUIREMENTS OF THE CURRENT CITY OF BAKERSFIELD LED STREET LIGHTING
SPECIFICATIONS.
15. MAXIMUM SLOPE RATIO FROM BACK OF SIDEWALK TO FACE OF WALL OR STRUCTURE SHALL BE 4: 1, EXCEPT FOR
TWO FEET BEHIND THE SIDEWALK WHERE THE MAXIMUM SLOPE SHALL BE 27o. ALTERNATIVELY, THE CITY ENGINEEFi
MAY APPROVE CURBING BEHIND THE SIDEWALK OR OTHER METHOD TO PREVENT EROSION ONTO THE SIDEWALK.
16. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THOSE ON RETURNS, STREET SIGNS AND STREET LIGHTS SHALL BE INSTALLED AT THE
EXTENSION OF THE NEAREST LOT LINE TO WHERE THEY ARE SHOWN HEREIN.

REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. SUBGRADE SHALL BE GRADED
TO WITHIN THE CITY TOLERANCES AND COMPACTED TO 95% OF THE MAXIMUM
DRY DENSITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM D-1557.
30. INSTALL BLUE MARKERS AT CENTERLINE IN THE STREET AT THE FIRE HYDRANTS PER
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS.
31. ANY ITEMS IN PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY THAT ARE DAMAGED OR DO NOT MEET

WHERE CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS ARE ACTIVELY IN PROGRESS, A MINIMUM OF ONE
TRAFFIC LANE, NOT LESS THAN TWELVE FEET IN WIDTH, SHALL BE OPEN FOR USE BY
PUBLIC TRAFFIC. WHERE CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS ARE NOT ACTIVELY IN PROGRESS,
NOT LESS THAN TWO SUCH LANES SHALL BE OPEN FOR USE BY PUBLIC TRAFFIC.
PUBLIC TRAFFIC MAY BE PERMITTED TO USE THE SHOULDERS AND, IF HALF -WIDTH
CONSTRUCTION METHODS ARE USED, MAY ALSO BE PERMITTED TO USE THE SIDE OF THE
ROADBED OPPOSITE TO THE ONE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. NO ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION
WILL BE ALLOWED FOR ANY SHAPING OF SHOULDERS NECESSARY FOR THE
ACCOMMODATION OF PUBLIC TRAFFIC THEREON DURING PAVING OPERATIONS.
IN ORDER TO EXPEDITE THE PASSAGE OF PUBLIC TRAFFIC THROUGH OR AROUND THE
WORK AND WHERE ORDERED BY THE ENGINEER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL, AT HIS OWN
EXPENSE, FURNISH, INSTALL, AND MAINTAIN CONSTRUCTION AREA SIGNS, LIGHTS, FLARES,
TEMPORARY RAILING (TYPE K), BARRICADES, AND OTHER FACILITIES FOR THE SOLE
CONVENIENCE AND DIRECTION OF PUBLIC TRAFFIC. ALSO, WHERE DIRECTED BY THE
ENGINEER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH COMPETENT FLAGMEN WHOSE SOLE DUTIES
SHALL CONSIST OF DIRECTING THE MOVEMENT OF PUBLIC TRAFFIC THROUGH OR AROUND
THE WORK.
37. TRAFFIC STRIPES AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS TO BE REMOVED WILL BE AS SHOWN ON PLANS AND
AS DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER.
TRAFFIC STRIPES AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS SHALL BE REMOVED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT
POSSIBLE FROM THE PAVEMENT BY ANY METHOD THAT DOES NOT MATERIALLY DAMAGE THE
SURFACE OR TEXTURE OF THE PAVEMENT OR SURFACING. WHERE BLAST CLEANING IS USED
FOR THE REMOVAL OF PAINTED TRAFFIC STRIPES AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS, THE AREA SHALL
BE SHIELDED SO THAT NO MATERIAL FROM THE BLASTING OPERATION IS ALLOWED TO ENTER
THE AREA THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TRAFFIC. SAND OR OTHER MATERIAL DEPOSITED ON
THE PAVEMENT AS A RESULT OF REMOVING TRAFFIC STRIPES AND MARKINGS SHALL BE
REMOVED AS THE WORK PROGRESSES. ACCUMULATIONS OF SAND OR OTHER MATERIAL WHICH
MIGHT INTERFERE WITH DRAINAGE OR MIGHT CONSTITUTE A HAZARD TO TRAFFIC WILL NOT BE
PERMITTED.
BLAST CLEANING FOR REMOVAL OF TRAFFIC STRIPES SHALL BE FEATHERED OUT TO IRREGULAR
AND VARYING WIDTHS. PAVEMENT MARKINGS SHALL BE REMOVED BY BLAST CLEANING A
