OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
Sept. 3, 2021 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Christian Clegg, City Manager SUBJECT: General Information
City Offices will be closed Monday, September 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Curbside trash and recycling services will not be affected. Notable Items
The City’s Solid Waste Division will host a pair of pop-up bulky item drive-thru events
on Saturday, September 11, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The events will be held at the parking lots of the Bakersfield Municipal Airport (2000
Union Avenue) and at the Riverlakes Ranch Community Center (3825 Riverlakes Drive). The last events – held on August 14 – collected almost 24,000 pounds worth of
trash and recycling items. Since launching in January, these events have collected more than 407,000 pounds of trash.
Thank you to everyone who has helped keep our City looking its best! These events
are made possible thanks to the Public Safety & Vital Services Measure (also known as Measure N).
We’re proud to partner with
Bitwise Industries on what we expect to be the first of many
entrepreneurship incubators in Bakersfield! Bitwise this
week announced the launch
of its Ignite Innovation Lab at
1701 18th Street (right), which
will provide workforce skills
training and development
over a six-month long cohort
program.
General Information Sept. 3, 2021 Page 2
The creation of this lab is the result of a partnership between Bakersfield, Bitwise, the County of Kern and B3K.
The Bakersfield Animal Control Division
brings its low-cost dog vaccination clinic back this weekend! It will be held
on Saturday, September 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at Beale Park (500 Oleander
Avenue). Anyone who attends is asked
to wear a mask and is required to keep
their pet on a leash. This will be the first
vaccination clinic since June after July
and August were skipped due to the
summer heat. There were 341 vaccines
issued to 196 pets at the June 5 clinic,
second-most of any clinic this year.
A maintenance outage is planned for the Bakersfield Mobile app next week. The
outage is set for Wednesday, September 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. During that time, users
may not be able to access the app or make service requests through the app or
the City's web portal. The mobile app can be downloaded free of charge here.

Traffic Advisories
Temporary closure planned on Manor Street Bridge
A temporary closure is planned for the northbound side of the Manor Street Bridge over
the Kern River on Tuesday, September 7.
Starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the northbound lanes of traffic will be closed for two hours.
A detour plan will be in place at Union Avenue for northbound traffic. Traffic delays are
expected as a result of this work. Drivers are asked to use caution and plan for extra travel
time if driving through the area, or to use alternate routes.
All southbound lanes are expected to remain open.
The work requiring the closure is expected to be completed the same day.
This closure is part of the bridge rehabilitation project that started in May 2020.
The City thanks the public for its patience and understanding during the completion of
these improvements.
Please Note: Construction work may be postponed and rescheduled without notice due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions. The City thanks the public for their
patience during the construction of these improvements.
Freeway closure for the WB58 to SB99 connector
Nighttime closures have been scheduled for the westbound State Route 58 connector to southbound State Route 99. The closure will take place on September 8 and September
9 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closure is needed for paving work.
During these closures, westbound-to-southbound motorists will be detoured to northbound State Route 99 connector to exit at Rosedale and then re-enter on the
southbound State Route 99 on-ramp.
Construction schedules may be changed without notice due to unforeseen circumstances. The Thomas Roads Improvement Program apologizes for any
inconvenience this work may cause the traveling public.

Why Should I License My Dog?
California requires all dogs over the age of three
months to be vaccinated and licensed as a rabies control measure. However, there are other reasons
why you should license your pet, such as:
• A license provides proof that your pet has been
vaccinated for rabies, which is a fatal viral disease
that can be prevented by vaccination.
• Anyone finding a lost dog can contact Animal
Control with the license number, and Animal Control
can find the owner.
• Proof of rabies vaccinations can be useful if your pet
is involved in a bite incident.
*ALL FEES/DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE BEFORE
ATTENDING A CLINIC FOR POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENTS OR MODIFICATIONS TO THIS SCHEDULE.
