NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEE3 by the Council of the City of Bakersfield that effective immediately following Council action, the Salary Schedule, a part of the Resolution No_ 179-1 9 is hereby amended as follows: 1. GENNARO CITY ATTORNEY of the City of Bakersfield T 0 vORIG►t�� Q1 CITY OF BAKERSFIELD CLASS SPECIFICATION: 14340 UNIT: WHITE COLLAR EE04: PROFESSIONALS CLASS TITLE: FLEET SERVICE WRITER CLASS SUMMARY: Under general supervision, positions in this class are responsible for the processing of vehicles and equipment for maintenance & repair; accurate entry and maintenance of repair data in the Fleet information system; and has considerable independence in setting equipment repair priorities and assigning work. Serves as primary customer contact, ensuring workflow is progressing and completed in a timely manner; and performs other duties as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position's essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: • Receives service requests and generates work orders using Fleet information system for all City equipment; • Determine vehicle and equipment needs; • Monitors work orders and status entries to ensure work performed on vehicles and equipment is accurately entered into the Fleet information system; • Issues work assignments to staff; • Communicates with departments concerning the status of their vehicles and equipment and motor pool; • Coordinates and tracks outside vendor repairs and recalls and invoices; • Prepares Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule and coordinates with using departments; • Coordinates and tracks the status of parts requests, • Coordinates the repair of vehicle accidents by collecting accident reports, police reports and contacts repair vendors for estimates; • Reviews repair times for appropriateness for work performed; generates mechanic productivity reports; tracks staff time; receives completed work orders and time sheets from staff, checks for errors and completeness and enters staff labor into computer; • Coordinates in-service and disposal process of vehicles and equipment; • Test-drives vehicles and equipment and transports vehicles and equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This class is responsible for assessing, documenting and monitoring the repair needs of vehicles and equipment maintained by the Fleet Division. Performs technical, specialized and/or difficult automotive analysis. Serves as a liaison to the departments, vendors, and staff concerning vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs, understanding key terminology, and tracking work. Positions report to the Fleet Supervisor II. CLASS TITLE: FLEET SERVICE WRITER 14340 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Troinincf and Experience: • Graduation from high school with diploma or cottainment of o satisfactory score on o G.E.Q.: and • Three (3) years' experience in the automotive industry performing customer service or mainte no nce/repair of vehicles cond equipment; or • An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties. Successful completion of appropriate trade school or technical course work in related area may be substituted for up to one (l ) year of the required work experience. Knowledge of: • Automotive, heavy and municipal equipment; • Fleet inventory rind work order systems; • Terminology in related field and concepts related to the service and repair of automotive, heavy cond municipal equipment; • Record Keeping proctic es cond maintenance office procedures; • Ports rand materio is related to automotive, heavy cond municipal equipment; • Proper techniques for dealing courteously and effectively with City staff, vendors, and members of the public: • Repair timefromes required for automotive, heavy and municipal equipment: • Safe work practices and procedures; and • Vehicle codes, rules, cond regulations. A Class "B" California driver's license must be obtained within the six-month probationary period. Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: • Standard office environment in a maintenance environment; • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions; • Employees are on -call for emergencies after regular hours and must be willing to work overtime and holidays.
