GENERAL NOTES:

8. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS (CURB, GUTTER, SIDEWALK, CROSS -GUTTER, FENCING,
ETC.) THAT ARE REMOVED, DAMAGED, OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED
AS DIRECTED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
9. THE LOCATIONS OF EXISTING UTILITIES AND UNDERGROUND PIPELINES ARE SHOWN IN
AN APPROXIMATE WAY ONLY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DETERMINE THE EXACT
LOCATION AND DEPTH OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES AND UNDERGROUND PIPELINES BEFORE
COMMENCING WORK. HE AGREES TO BE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL
DAMAGES WHICH MIGHT BE OCCASIONED BY HIS FAILURE TO EXACTLY LOCATE,
PRESERVE AND PROTECT ANY AND ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES AND PIPELINES. THE

11. IN THE EVENT CONSTRUCTION STAKING BASED ON CONSULTANT'S PLANS, DRAWINGS
OR OTHER DOCUMENTS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY OTHER THAN THE CONSULTANT, CLIENT
AGREES TO HOLD CONSULTANT HARMLESS AND RELEASE CONSULTANT FROM ALL

12. ALL EXISTING PAVING AND SURFACING REMOVED, DAMAGED OR UNDERCUT SHALL BE

13. COMPACTION TESTS SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DEVELOPER. THE

ENGINEER. THE COST OF RETESTING DUE TO FAILED COMPACTION TESTS WILL BE BACK
CHARGED TO THE CONTRACTOR.
14. MEYER CIVIL ENGINEERING, INC. SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR
UNAUTHORIZED CHANGES TO, OR USES OF, THESE PLANS. ALL CHANGES TO THESE
PLANS MUST BE APPROVED IN WRITING BY MEYER CIVIL ENGINEERING, INC.
15. SEE WATER AND STREET IMPROVEMENT PLANS FOR OTHER IMPROVEMENTS THAT
ARE PART OF THIS PROJECT.
16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEWATERING ALL TRENCHES. IF
TRENCHES OR PIPING BECOME DAMAGED DUE TO WATER INFILTRATION, IT SHALL BE THE
CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR THE TRENCH AND PIPING TO THE

17. FLOODING OR WATER JETTING SHALL NOT BE USED FOR BACKFILL COMPACTION.
18. DRAWINGS SHOWN ON THIS SHEET ARE FOR REFERENCE ONLY. CONTRACTOR
SHALL OBTAIN A COPY OF "CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUBDIVISION STANDARDS" AND
DRAWINGS FOR HIS USE. THESE STANDARD DRAWINGS SHALL BE CONSIDERED A PART

INSPECTED WITH VIDEO EQUIPMENT DESIGNED FOR THIS PURPOSE AND AS APPROVED BY
THE CITY ENGINEER. THE TELEVISION CAMERA SHALL HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF ROTATING
360*. IN ORDER TO VIEW AND RECORD THE TOP AND SIDES OF THE PIPE, AS REQUIRED.
THE VIDEO INSPECTION SHALL BE WITNESSED BY THE CITY'S CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR,
WHO WILL ALSO INITIAL AND DATE THE "CHAIN OF CUSTODY" FORM, THE DEVELOPER
SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY CITY OF ANY PIPE LOCATIONS REVEALED TO BE NOT IN
COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS. A RECORDED VIDEO CASSETTE, THE COMPLETED
"CHAIN OF CUSTODY" FORM AND A WRITTEN LOG (WHICH INCLUDES THE STATIONING,
BASED ON THE STATIONING OF THE APPROVED PLANS, OF ALL CONNECTED LATERALS)
OF THE INSPECTION SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR VIEWING AND SHALL BE APPROVED BY

STORM DRAIN PIPE:

D. CONCRETE PIPE SHALL BE LAID IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF
SECTION 65 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
2. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS, ALL RUBBER GASKETED JOINT RINGS
SHALL BE CHECKED WITH A GAUGE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE PIPE AFTER THE JOINT
HAS BEEN ASSEMBLED TO DETERMINE THAT THE RING "-IAS BEEN PROPERLY LOCATED
AND SEATED. IMPROPERLY MADE JOINTS SHALL BE PULLED APART AND SATISFACTORILY
REMADE.
3. THE FOLLOWING CITY STANDARDS APPLY TO THIS PROJECT FOR STORM DRAIN
CONSTRUCTION:

ABANDON EXISTING STORM DRAIN. Where called for on the plans, the Contractor shall
abandon existing RCP 18" and 24" storm drain pipe. Tr e 18" and 24" storm drain pipes that are
to be abandoned at various locations identified on the plans, shall be completely beckfilled by
the Contractor in a method approved by the engineer. The pipe fill material shall consist of
a lean mix of cement (2 sacks per yard) and sand cr controlled low strength material
(CLSM) and shall be placed in the pipe to fully backf ll the pipe without voids. After filling
the pipe, the Contractor shall plug each end of the pipe in the within the manholes with
concrete (not less than 505 pounds of cementitious material per cubic yard) and shall shape
the concrete to conform to the manhole wall. The concrete plug shall be a minimum of one
(1) foot in thickness.
When CLSM is proposed for use, the Contractor shall submit a mix design and test data to
the Engineer for approval prior to abandoning the storm drain pipe for which controlled low
strength material is proposed for use. The test data and mix design shall provide for the
following:
A. A 28-day compressive strength between 50 pounds per square inch and 100 pounds
per square inch. Compressive strength shall be determined in conformance with the
requirements in ASTM Designation: D 4832.
B. Cement shall be any type of portland cement conforming to the requirements in ASTM
Designation: C 150; or any type of blended hydraulic cement conforming to the
requirements in ASTM Designation: C 595 or the physical requirements in ASTM Designation:
C 1157. Testing of cement will not be required.
C. Admixtures may be used in conformance with the provisions in Section 90-1.02E,
"Admixtures," of the Standard Specifications. Chemical admixtures containing chlorides as Cl
in excess of one percent by weight of admixture, as determined in conformance with the
requirements of California Test 415, shall not be used. If an air -entraining admixture is
used, the maximum air content shall be limited to 20 percent.
Materials for CLSM shall be thoroughly machine -mixed in a pugmill, rotary drum or other
approved mixer. Mixing shall continue until the cementitious materia; and water are
thoroughly dispersed throughout the material.
The fill material chosen be the Contractor shall be placed in the work within 3 hours after
introduction of the cement to the aggregates.
