1. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners, Evans, Dewey, Miranda, Garza seated at 4:15,
Alternate Commissioner Yum, Adai-Merino
Absent: Commissioners Burrow, Dison, Young, Banuelos.
Alternate Commissioner Baldovinos, Shweiger, Salines, Hernandez
2. PUBLIC STATEMENTS
None.
3. SUMMARY REPORT
a. Adoption of the February 3, 2020 Youth Commission Minutes
Motion by Commissioner Dewey to Approve.
Seconded by Christina Evans.
Motion Unanimously Approved.
4. NEW BUSINESS
a. Finalize discussion on Youth Commission project ideas.
Nathen Gutierrez City Manager's Office & Christina Oleson, Deputy City
Attorney, made comments regarding further discussion on picking a project
from the Bakersfield Police Departments Public Service Announcement
topics either substance abuse, cyber bulling or piggy backing with KBB.
Commissioner, Miranda and Dewy made comments regarding piggy
backing with KBB.
Commissioners Evans, Merino, Garza alternate Yum would like to proceed_
with a Bakersfield Police PSA. Commissioner Dewy subsequently agreed.
b. Vote on Youth Commission project through the Bakersfield Police Department
or Keep Bakersfield Beautiful through the City of Bakersfield Solid Waste
Division
Commissioners Merino Dewey, Garza, Miranda voting to pick what topic to
do a PSA on drugs or cyber bulling
Commissioners agreed to cyber bullying PSA.
Nathen Gutierrez City Manager's Office made comments on contacting BPD
on what direction the Committee should go.
Motion by Commissioner Miranda to work with BPD on a PSA for Cyber
Bullying.
Motion by Commissioner Miranda to Approve.
Seconded by Commissioner Dewey.
Motion is approved.
c. Begin planning Youth Commission project and vote on a day and time for a
Special meeting.
Special meeting set for Monday March 16, 2020 to plan the PSA on
cyber bulling.
Motion by Commissioner Miranda to Approve.
Seconded by Commissioner Dewy.
Motion is approved.
5. STAFF COMMENTS
Nathan made comment on topic cyber bulling and advised
Commissioner to think of ideas and what goals they want.
