HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/24/22CC OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER June 24, 2022 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Christian Clegg, City Manager SUBJECT: General Information Notable Items  The updates to the playground equipment at River Oaks Park have been completed! These improvements (below) were part of more than $4 million project to upgrade playground equipment at 12 different parks all across the City. Only improvements at Patriots Park and Solera Gardens remain to be completed, though they are currently underway. The City-wide Playground Rehab Project got underway at the end of October and is only possible thanks to funding from the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure, also known as Measure N.  Anyone reading the USA Today “Saluting National Parks Special Edition” will likely see Visit Bakersfield’s half-page ad in the section highlighting Yosemite National Park (see page 2). The publication takes readers on a coast-to-coast tour of the Top 10 most visited parks – including Yosemite – spectacular views and the best in Recreational General Information June 24, 2022 Page 2 Vehicles and campgrounds. Since Bakersfield is located along a heavily-traveled driving route connecting to four popular national parks – Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, and Death Valley – advertising in the issue will hopefully bring more visitors as they make their way to those parks while on vacation. The issue is available around the country wherever newspapers are sold, and it can be purchased online as well.  The most recent pop-up large trash item drop-off events held on Saturday, June 11, collected 28,360 pounds of trash and recycling. Between the events at the Kaiser Permanente Sports Village and the Panorama Drive site, 259 residents brought 77 mattresses, 19 tires and 193 e-waste items, filling eight open-top dumpster trailers. Another 920 pounds worth of recycling items were also dropped off during the events which are only possible thanks to funding from the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure, also known as Measure N.  The deadline for the Parks Master Plan survey is approaching, with a little more than two weeks to go (midnight on July 10). We’re encouraging everyone to take the survey so the Recreation & Parks Department can receive valuable feedback about what the public wants to see in its parks moving forward. If you haven’t taken the survey yet, please do! And also feel free to share out this link to the survey to everyone you know: bit.ly/MyWishForBakersfieldParks. The more feedback we receive, the better!  There will be a virtual Visioning Workshop for the General Plan Update on July 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. Spanish language translation will be available as well. The General Plan is an important piece of guidance for the City, and the survey will help us develop policies to address the local housing needs of our communities. General Information June 24, 2022 Page 3 Virtual meeting info: • Zoom • Meeting ID: 878 6195 5143 • Passcode: 248531 And as a reminder, the public can provide General Plan Update feedback through our Housing Element Survey until July 7.
