3. NEW BUSINESS
A.Park Ranger Program – R. Anthony
Safe Neighborhoods and Community Relations Committee Special Meeting November 18, 2021 Agenda Page 2
Rick Anthony, Director of Recreation and Parks provided the
committee a presentation on the Park Ranger Program. Staff shared
more detailed information on the program and analysis on research
from peer cities with Ranger programs. The focus of the
conversation was on the scope of duties and authority of the
Rangers to deliver as much value to the community as possible.
Committee members provided feedback on creating a more
detailed patrol schedule with patrol zones, increased supervision,
use of technology to track movements of Rangers, and a potential
graveyard shift.
Committee members also asked staff to conduct analysis on whether Park Rangers and Code Enforcement Officers should have
body worn cameras and electronic control devices (tasers)
City Manager, Christian Clegg, committed to bringing back these
two issues along with a six-month review of the program to the
Committee.
Committee voted unanimously to move forward with the staff
proposed salary range and citation authority for Park Rangers.
