TO: Bakersfield Youth Commission FROM: Nathan Gutierrez, Management Assistant CREATED BY: Nathan Gutierrez, Management Assistant DATE: 8/18/2022 WARD: SUBJECT: Adoption of the FY 2022-2023 revised Youth Commission regular meeting calendar STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends adoption of the FY 2022-2023 revised Youth Commission meeting calendar BACKGROUND: The Youth Commission holds regular monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of each month generally between August and June which corresponds with the Kern High School district calendar year, with the exception of holiday closures. Current regular meetings are held in City Hall North, Conference Room A: however, past Youth Commission meetings have also been held in City Council Chambers, pursuant to the Bylaws. Specifically, ARTICLE 111, Section 1 states, "Bakersfield Youth Commission shall hold its regular meetings at a date and time that is mutually agreeable to the Youth Commission and City at City Council Chambers." During the first meeting of the new Youth Commission, commissioners review meeting dates which had been adopted by the commission from the previous year and make any changes as necessary to accommodate schedules. Additionally, the new commission discusses and reviews dates between January and June of the next calendar year and adopts the entire calendar. Due to later start and dismissal times implemented by the Kern High School District, youth commissioners would not longer be able to arrive to meetings on -time with the current 4:00 p.m. call to order. Since the current schedule is no longer feasible, staff is bringing forward a new draft calendar for consideration and adoption which includes Youth Commission meetings from August 2022 through June 2023 with a proposed call to order at 4:30 p.m. The revised calendar' still proposes that regular meetings occur in Conference Room A, but the Youth Commission may direct staff to change the regular meeting place to Council Chambers, if desired.
