Classic at Kern County Raceway Park, USA BMX Fall Nationals at
Metro BMX, and Via Arté Italian Street Painting Festival at The
Markteplace (next slide). Those events translated into increased
business for local hotels, with several properties reporting being at
or near sell-out.
According to Visit Bakers eld, the occupancy rate for Bakers eld-
area hotels last Thursday, Friday and Saturday was 6.5% higher than
the same period in 2021. Average Daily Rate (ADR) was up 5.78%
over the same period in 2021, and RevPAR, or Revenue Per Available
room, was up 12.67%. That higher revenue translates into more
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue owing to local
governments. And the increased number of visitors meant greater
levels of spending in local restaurants and other businesses.

Construction is underway for the Brundage Lane Navigation
Center’s expansion (below). In December 2021, the City Council
approved an expansion of the facility from a 150-bed facility to 269.
Along with more beds, the on-site kennel will grow from 15 spaces to
50; more medical exam rooms will be added; a recuperative center
will be created; and more space will be created to add case workers.
Construction crews have built walls, begun the process of setting
framework for doors and are installing electrical components. The
$6.01 million project – funded through the Public Safety & Vital
Services (PSVS) Measure and American Rescue Plan Act funds – is
scheduled to open in January, 2023.
