Friday, November 4, 2022 Notable items City celebrates 66th Annual Teen Government Day More than 80 local students from 21 area high schools learned about Bakerseld's government and the services we provide to our thousands of residents every day during the 66th Annual City of Bakerseld Teen City Government Day on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The 84 students were assigned to various City departments to learn about those services, and they also provided valuable feedback about what they feel are important needs in the community (gallery below). 16 local high school students joined the City Council for its meeting on Nov. 2, 2022 as part of the 66th Annual Teen City Government Day. Sixteen students were then invited to attend Wednesday evening's City Council meeting, sitting on the dais with their Councilmember or City staff counterparts (below). 11/4/22, 2:40 PM Bakersfield Notes 11.04.2022 https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b3d8bdd193b14170b1379e1afb18644d/print 3/15 Bakerseld and 84 local students participated in the 66th Annual Teen City Government Day on Nov. 2, 2022. 11/4/22, 2:40 PM Bakersfield Notes 11.04.2022 https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b3d8bdd193b14170b1379e1afb18644d/print 4/15 Citywide Solar Project Phase 1 complete! The City and ForeFront Power celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of a Citywide Solar Project that will save Bakerseld and its taxpayers millions of dollars in energy costs. A ribbon cutting for Phase 1 was held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Park at River Walk. With an annual electrical output of 3.4 million kilowatt-hours, Phase 1 alone is expected to save the City and taxpayers nearly $9 million in electricity costs over a 20-year period. 11/4/22, 2:40 PM Bakersfield Notes 11.04.2022 https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b3d8bdd193b14170b1379e1afb18644d/print 6/15 Under the terms of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the City of Bakerseld, ForeFront Power developed, owns, and maintains the City’s solar energy portfolio. ForeFront Power charges the City a xed, below-market rate for electricity, which is locked in for the 20- year duration of the agreement. And ForeFront Power will continue to operate and maintain the system at no cost to the City. 11/4/22, 2:40 PM Bakersfield Notes 11.04.2022 https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b3d8bdd193b14170b1379e1afb18644d/print 7/15 The City’s energy demands are high and demands grow each year. With rates increasing as well, City staff has explored energy efciency projects in recent years to reduce its reliance on costly energy from PG&E. This project will greatly reduce the cost of energy for Bakerseld, freeing up valuable General Fund dollars for other City Council priorities. 11/4/22, 2:40 PM Bakersfield Notes 11.04.2022 https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b3d8bdd193b14170b1379e1afb18644d/print 8/15 Citywide Solar Project Phase 1 ribbon cuttingCitywide Solar Project Phase 1 ribbon cutting Check out this video of the project and ribbon cutting, produced by the City's Technology Services Department.
