Notable items
Sixth Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
The holiday spirit was on full display as the community gathered to
celebrate the Sixth Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, Nov.
26 at Centennial Plaza in front of Mechanics Bank Arena. The tree
lighting ceremony, emceed by Mayor Karen Goh, included a special
visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Many showed up for the tree lighting
ahead of the Bakers eld Condors' Annual Teddy Bear Toss game.

Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special appearance at the Sixth Annual
Christmas Tree Lighting at Centennial Plaza at Mechanics Bank
Arena on Saturday. The jolly couple made their way from the North
Pole and took pictures with children young and old.

40th Annual Bakers eld Christmas Parade
Holiday cheer was spread throughout Downtown Bakers eld as
thousands of residents gathered to watch the 40th annual
Bakers eld Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 1. More than 100
entries lined the streets, including Bakers eld Fire, Bakers eld
Police and elected of cials.

32,000 pounds of trash dumped at drop-off events
The City of Bakers eld's Solid Waste
Division collected 32,160 pounds of trash
between its two pop-up large item drop-off
events held on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Mesa
Marin Sports Complex and property at
15050 Stockdale Highway.

More than 210 mattresses were also dropped off, along with nearly
100 e-waste items and 760 pounds of recyclables.
These events are part of Bakers eld's Clean City Initiative and are
only possible thanks to funding from the Public Safety & Vital
Services (PSVS) Measure, also known as Measure N.
To date, the City has collected nearly 215,000 pounds of trash in
2022 through these pop-up events.
The nal pop-up trash drop-off event of this year is set for Saturday,
Dec. 10 in the parking lots at Kaiser Permanente Sports Village
(9001 Ashe Road) and at 4200 Panorama Drive.
Holiday Grease Collection event returns
The City of Bakers eld’s annual Holiday
Grease Collection event returns for the
2022-23 holiday season, offering a safe
disposal option for cooking oil and grease
for City residents.
Disposing of used cooking oil and grease
down residential drains can result in clogged pipes and other
damage, causing backups. Instead, residents can stop by either of the
City’s Holiday Grease Collection locations and dispose of used oil
and grease in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations. There is no
charge to dispose of used cooking oil and grease during the event.
The 2022 Holiday Grease Collection event kicks off Monday, Nov. 28
and ends Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.

Residents may drop off their used cooking oil and grease at those
locations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday.
The event is closed on Dec. 26, 2022 and Jan. 2, 2023.
For more information, residents should contact the Wastewater
Division at 661-326-3249.
Transformative Climate Communities grant community
meeting
The City of Bakers eld's Economic & Community Development
Department will host a community meeting to discuss a community
grant known as Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) on
Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center
(1000 S. Owens Street) from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Recreation & Parks Pediatric CPR & First Aid
Certi cation Training
The Recreation & Parks Department will be hosting Pediatric CPR &
First Aid certi cation training Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Bakers eld
Community House, 2020 R Street. Individuals interested in
participating in the low-cost event must pre-register in person at the
McMurtrey Aquatic Center, 1325 Q Street. For more information
