Notable items
Promoting state's new organic waste recycling law
Our Solid Waste Division continues to promote California's new
food waste recycling law, SB 1383, hoping to get more public
participation.

Under the law, residents and business owners are required to recycle
their food waste in green carts and bins.
To help get the word out, marketing materials are being utilized at
local movie theaters and through various streaming services. Lobby
banners have been created and can be found at AMC Bakers eld 6
(4200 California, Ave.) and at Regal Edwards Bakers eld (at The
Marketplace, 9000 Ming Ave.).
Make sure you arrive early for your movie, as you'll be able to catch
our :30-second advertisement playing as part of Name That Movie
trivia.

program in BCSD

The City of Bakers eld's Recreation & Parks Department recently
partnered with the Bakers eld City School District to create an
after-school pilot program through All Out Flag Football.

The program allows students in socioeconomically disadvantaged
neighborhoods an opportunity to participate in ag football free of
charge.

About 100 students from six schools are participating in the
program, which runs through December 2022.

The Recreation & Parks Department funded the program with about
$7,000 from its recreation budget to cover the costs of equipment,
uniforms and awards.

Pop-up large trash item drop-off events
The City of Bakers eld's Solid Waste Division will hold a pair of pop-
up large item drop-off events on Saturday, December 10 from 8 a.m.
to noon.
The events will be held at the parking lots of Kaiser Permanente
Sports Village (9001 Ashe Road) and the Bakers eld Municipal
Airport (1000 S. Union Avenue).

These events are part of Bakers eld’s Clean City Initiative and are
funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure, also
known as Measure N.
Jodee Kitchen was the winner of the General Plan Update Bakers eld 2045 RISE t-
shirt contest.
And the winner is...
As the City continues the process of updating the General Plan, a t-
shirt design contest was launched to help create buzz and

excitement.
In September a call was made to the public, asking for individuals to
submit their designs that would help illustrate the future of the City,
the General Plan and the adopted Bakers eld RISE slogan. The pool
was narrowed down to three entries, which were voted on in
October.
The contest was close, but ultimately, the public chose a submission
by 24-year-old Jodee Kitchen, a local graphic designer.
Other nalists included Mara Arevalo-Diaz and Tristan Pham.
The three received Bakers eld 2045 RISE swag bags and a t-shirt.
Kitchen, who says she submitted a design to expand her experience
and because she loves her city, also won gift cards and the right to
have her design attached to the General Plan Update.
Kroll Park vaccination clinic sees 120 dogs serviced
More than 120 dogs came through the Animal Control Field
Services' nal low-cost vaccination clinic of 2022 at Kroll Park on
Saturday, Dec. 3, getting 220 vaccines.
Along with the vaccinations, 73 licenses were provided and 23 dogs
were microchipped.

The vaccine clinics proved to be popular in 2022, as nearly 1,400
dogs were vaccinated during the nine clinics setup around City
parks.
In all, more than 2,600 vaccines were administered, about 400 dogs
were microchipped and nearly 900 licenses were provided.
The next clinic is scheduled to take place Feb. 4, 2023 at Beach Park,
3400 21st Street.
Holiday Grease Collection event

The City of Bakers eld’s annual Holiday
Grease Collection event returns for the
2022-23 holiday season, offering a safe
disposal option for cooking oil and grease
for City residents.

Disposing of used cooking oil and grease down residential drains can
result in clogged pipes and other damage, causing backups. Instead,
residents can stop by either of the City’s Holiday Grease Collection
locations and dispose of used oil and grease in a safe and
environmentally friendly way.
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations. There is no
charge to dispose of used cooking oil and grease during the event.
The 2022 Holiday Grease Collection event kicks off Monday, Nov. 28
and ends Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
Cooking oil and grease drop-off locations:
City of Bakers eld Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 (6901
McCutchen Road)
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce (204 Universe
Avenue)
Residents may drop off their used cooking oil and grease at those
locations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday.
The event is closed on Dec. 26, 2022 and Jan. 2, 2023.
For more information, residents should contact the Wastewater

Recreation & Parks Pediatric CPR & First Aid
Certi cation Training
The Recreation & Parks Department will be hosting Pediatric CPR &
First Aid certi cation training Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Bakers eld
Community House, 2020 R Street. Individuals interested in
participating in the low-cost event must pre-register in person at the
McMurtrey Aquatic Center, 1325 Q Street. For more information

The City has the opportunity to utilize $5.4 million from the
American Rescue Plan through HUD's HOME Investment
Partnerships Program to provide housing services and shelter to
individuals and families experiencing homelessness and other
vulnerable populations. We have two meetings scheduled for Dec.
12 and Dec. 13 where you can learn more and share your feedback.
Hope to Home Program Orientation
Anyone looking to own a home can get some assistance thanks to the
Hope to Home Program.
Administered by Ventura County Community Development
Corporation, the Hope to Home program assists families earning up
to 80% of the Area Median Income, with up to $23,000 in down
payment assistance.
When combined with VCCDC's other programs, you can access up to
$63,000 for the purchase of your own home.

Westbound lane closure on
Truxtun Avenue
All westbound lanes of Truxtun Avenue
between Elm and Pine Streets will be
closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in
order to accommodate the morning
dedication of the new World War II
memorial. Traf c on westbound Truxtun
Avenue will be reduced to one lane starting
at B Street.
Detours will be in place during the closure
to re-route traf c through the area at A
Street and Pine Street.
The eastbound lanes are not expected to be impacted, but drivers
should be aware of possible delays and pedestrians in the area.
Traf c is expected to return to normal ows by 2 p.m.
