Holiday Closure
The City of Bakers eld's administrative of ces - including City Hall
North (1600 Truxtun Avenue) - will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 in
observance of the Christmas holiday (Sunday).
City of ces will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 as normal.
Trash services will NOT be impacted by the closure.

recently came across the man, who had
been missing for three months. A week
earlier, his mother gave other Rangers a
yer with his picture and contact information.
McRoberts and Osornia contacted the man's family and were able to
reunite them.
"(His mom) was happy. She said that we were angels, doing a great
job, and we were able to get her son home in time for Christmas,"
said Osornia.

Dozens of children showed up Friday, Dec. 16 at the Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Community Center to start Christmas early.

Since November, the MLK Community Center has accepted toy and
clothing accessory donations for distribution to families in the
neighborhood.

Among the donations were items and gift cards from The BLVD,
Sam's Club and Target.

On hand at the Community Center to distribute the items was Santa
Claus himself.
Santa, Bakers eld Fire to visit local hospitals
For the 38th consecutive year, Santa Claus will visit local hospitals
after getting prepared at the Bakers eld Fire Department's Station 1
on Saturday, Dec. 24.

Santa and the Bakers eld Fire Department Christmas Eve Task Force
will make stops at local hospitals and children centers throughout
Bakers eld.
The task force is mission focused, putting smiles on faces of little
ones who are in the hospital over the holidays or away from their
home and families.
This event is supported and sponsored by the Bakers eld Fire
Department and Bakers eld Fire ghter’s Relief Association.

Christmas trees
As many celebrate the Christmas holiday,
the Bakers eld Fire Department wants it
to be safe for everyone.

Department held a demonstration showing
just how quickly a Christmas tree can catch
re.
Dry trees or trees near replaces, candles
or electrical outlets can pose a potential threat to families and their
homes.
Bakers eld Fire recommends keeping three feet of space around a
tree and making sure it has suf cient water to keep it from drying. It
is also recommended to dispose of it through Christmas tree
recycling locations or by cutting it up to t into your green waste
carts.
The City also offers a FREE Christmas tree recycling program
starting Tuesday, Dec. 27.
Bakers eld Police Sergeant retires after more than 31
years of service
On Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, Bakers eld
Police Sgt. Bryon Sandrini rode off into the
sunset after a more than 30-year career in
law enforcement.
Sandrini started his career with Bakers eld
Police on June 6, 1994, working for 28 1/2
years with the department. He started his

It may have been nothing more than a coincidence, but the same day
that a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit Northern California, the
Bakers eld Fire Department held con ned space rescue training,
aimed at dealing with scenarios that could stem from earthquakes.
On Tuesday, Dec. 20, about two dozen Bakers eld re ghters were
on hand at the Olive Drive Fire Training Center, learning rsthand
how to operate situations involving victims in compromised
positions in con ned spaces.

The scenarios included one victim who was stuck in a hole that was
covered by a concrete slab and another victim who was pinned under
a concrete slab.

Volunteers sought for 2023 Point-In-Time Count
In continuing efforts to help those experiencing homelessness, the
annual Point-In-Time Count is scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023.
The Bakers eld Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative is looking for
volunteers to help administer the PIT Count to get an accurate count
of those experiencing homelessness.

The PIT Count provides a snapshot view of homelessness and an
accurate PIT Count is needed to receive adequate funding and
ensure proper allocation of resources and energy to address
homelessness.

The inaugural class of the City Hall
Fellowship Program will soon be
expanding.
Thanks to the City's partnerships with
California Volunteers and the Kern
Community Foundation, we will be
reopening the Fellowship application to
expand the current class.
Applications will be accepted through
Friday, Jan. 6.
Information on the program and the application can be found on the
Kern Community Foundation's website.
Holiday Grease Collection underway
The City of Bakers eld’s annual Holiday
Grease Collection event returns for the
2022-23 holiday season, offering a safe
disposal option for cooking oil and grease
for City residents.
Disposing of used cooking oil and grease
down residential drains can result in clogged pipes and other
damage, causing backups. Instead, residents can stop by either of the

City’s Holiday Grease Collection locations and dispose of used oil
and grease in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations. There is no
charge to dispose of used cooking oil and grease during the event.
The 2022 Holiday Grease Collection event ends Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
Cooking oil and grease drop-off locations:
City of Bakers eld Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 (6901
McCutchen Road)
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce (204 Universe
Avenue)
Residents may drop off their used cooking oil and grease at those
locations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday.
The event is closed on Dec. 26, 2022 and Jan. 2, 2023.
For more information, residents should contact the Wastewater
Division at 661-326-3249.

Easton Drive closure begins Dec. 26
Easton Drive is scheduled to be closed
from the intersection with California
Avenue to 800 feet north of California
Avenue from Dec. 26-30.
The closure will occur daily from 9 p.m. - 5
a.m.
The closure is needed to transport a crane onsite for the installation
of a bike path canal crossing.
Other parts of Easton Drive will be accessible during the closure by
traveling north from the intersection of California Avenue and
Chester Lane.
