Holiday Closure
The City of Bakers eld's administrative of ces - including City Hall
North (1600 Truxtun Avenue) - will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2 in
observance of the New Year's Day holiday.
City of ces will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3 as normal.
Trash services will NOT be impacted by the closure.
Notable items
Santa Express takes ight from BFD Station 1
It was a memorable Christmas for a number of families, as Santa
Claus made a trip from the North Pole to visit hospitals and
children's centers in Bakers eld along with the Bakers eld Fire
Department.
Jolly Old St. Nick stopped by BFD Station 1 on Christmas Eve, Dec.
24, meeting up with BFD's Task Force 1, before the Santa Express

visited children in hospitals, who were away from their homes for
Christmas.
This was the 38th year Santa and the BFD Christmas Eve Task Force
joined up to visit children.
This event is supported and sponsored by the Bakers eld Fire
Department and the Bakers eld Fire ghter's Relief Association.

This last week has seen much of California, including Bakers eld hit
with much-needed rain.

According to National Weather Service Hanford, Bakers eld had
nearly an inch of rain (.88") from Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Thursday,
Dec. 29, with more rain in the forecast.

The rain has led to backed up storm drains, keeping our Public Works
Department busy.

On Thursday, our Public Works crews were hitting hot spots around
the City where storm drains were clogged.

This last week storms hitting California have led much-needed rain in
Bakers eld.
Rain leads to City dog park closures
Rain this week has taken a toll on the City's
dog parks, leading to ooding at many
locations.

Because many are sumps reimagined into
dog parks, the sites are sometimes susceptible to ooding.
Following this week's rain, the City's Recreation & Parks Department
announced that all dog parks at City parks will be closed until
Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.
The City maintains the following dog parks:
Centennial Dog Park, 400 Montclair Street
Coffee Road Dog Park, 6101 Coffee Road
Kroll Dog Park, 7500 Kroll Way
Mesa Marin Sports Complex Dog Park,
10315 Hwy. 178
Seasons Dog Park, 5601 Harris Road
University Dog Park, 4301 University Avenue
Wilson Dog Park, 2400 Wilson Road
Conservation efforts help reduce residential domestic
water usage
In December, 2021, due to the state's ongoing drought, the City
implemented Mandatory Water Restrictions for its water system
customers, as it entered Stage 2 of its Drought Mitigation Plan.
A year later, it appears water conservation efforts are having an
impact.

According to the City's Water Resources
Department, there was a 14% reduction of
residential domestic water usage per
capita in November 2022 compared to
November 2020, when the state's drought
proclamation went into effect.
Despite recent rain, the majority of Kern
County, including Bakers eld, remains in
the exceptional drought category,
according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The City's Mandatory Water Restrictions,
including no outdoor watering on Mondays
and no watering during and 48 hours after
measurable rain, remain in effect.
Volunteers sought for 2023 Point-In-Time Count
In continuing efforts to help those experiencing homelessness, the
annual Point-In-Time Count is scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023.
The Bakers eld Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative is looking for
volunteers to help administer the PIT Count to get an accurate count
of those experiencing homelessness.

The PIT Count provides a snapshot view of homelessness and an
accurate PIT Count is needed to receive adequate funding and
ensure proper allocation of resources and energy to address
homelessness.

Regional Homeless Collaborative website .
Applications reopened for City Hall Fellowship Program
The inaugural class of the City Hall Fellowship Program will soon be
expanding.

Thanks to the City's partnerships with
California Volunteers and the Kern
Community Foundation, we will be
reopening the Fellowship application to
expand the current class.
Applications will be accepted through
Friday, Jan. 6.
Information on the program and the
application can be found on the Kern
Community Foundation's website.
Holiday Grease Collection underway
The City of Bakers eld’s annual Holiday
Grease Collection event returns for the
2022-23 holiday season, offering a safe
disposal option for cooking oil and grease
for City residents.
Disposing of used cooking oil and grease
down residential drains can result in clogged pipes and other
damage, causing backups. Instead, residents can stop by either of the
City’s Holiday Grease Collection locations and dispose of used oil
and grease in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations. There is no
charge to dispose of used cooking oil and grease during the event.
The 2022 Holiday Grease Collection event ends Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
Cooking oil and grease drop-off locations:
City of Bakers eld Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 (6901
McCutchen Road)
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce (204 Universe
Avenue)
Residents may drop off their used cooking oil and grease at those
locations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday.
The event is closed on Jan. 2, 2023.
For more information, residents should contact the Wastewater
Division at 661-326-3249.
