AN ORDINANCE ADDING, CHAPTER 15.38
TO THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO WA'~'~ METERS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
Chapter 15.38 is hereby added to the Bakersfield
Municipal Code to read as follows:

Water Meters
Definitions.
Meters required.
Use of meters.
15.38.010 Definitions.
For the purposes of this chapter, the following words shall
have the meanings as set forth in this section:
A. "Water service connection" means water service pipe from
the water distribution pipeline to the nearest curb or property
line adjacent to a dedicated public street or to a public utility
easement available for use by the city or water service provider.
B. "Water meter" means a device which measures quantities
of water consumed at a particular location.
15.38.020 Meters required.
A. All new structures within the city which are
connected to a water service connection after the effective date
of this ordinance shall, prior to such connection, be equipped
with a water meter.
Bo The provider of water service for any area of the
city may reimburse the owner of any building for installation of
a water meter as required by this chapter.
15.38.030 Use of meters.
A. The provider of water service to any structure upon
which a water meter has been installed may compute charges for
water service based on the measured quantities of water used at
that location.
B. This chapter shall not be construed to require use
of water meters by any provider of water service.
SECTIQ~ 2.

City Charter provisions and shall become effective thirty (30
days from and after the date of its passage.
