Bakers eld Fire water rescue team deployed to Merced
County
The Bakers eld Fire Department is deploying a six-member water
rescue team to the Merced County Operational Area, pre-

positioning ahead of the next round of storms expected to hit
California.
The resources are being deployed under the California Master
Mutual Aid System.
Members of this team who were also deployed in early January saw
signi cant action and made several rescues in the Merced area.
The team deployed from Bakers eld Fire Department Headquarters
at Station 1 on Thursday morning.
Bakers eld Fire ghters visit D.C., advocate for re
safety
Four Bakers eld Fire ghters visited our nation's capital this week,
attending the 2023 International Association of Fire ghter’s
Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. from March 5-8.

The re ghters lobbied at Capitol Hill for re ghter safety, labor
issues, and grant funding for the Bakers eld Fire Department.
President Joe Biden spoke at the conference and the group had a
personal meeting with House Speaker and Kern County
Congressman Kevin McCarthy.
A re helmet was presented to the speaker who once was a
Bakers eld reserve re ghter and whose father was deputy chief for
Bakers eld Fire. His father’s chief helmet is on display at the
Congressman's of ce in Bakers eld.

TCC community meetings gather public feedback
The City continues to work toward securing state Transformative
Climate Communities funding and has identi ed the Southeast
Bakers eld community as the grant’s primary focus area.

A number of in-person and online community meetings are taking
place to allow the public to view goals, strategies and proposed
projects.
The meetings are designed to allow the public to let their voices be
heard and provide input as to how potential TCC funds should be
spent.
Meetings are scheduled to take place through March 21.

City hosts South San Joaquin Valley division of CalCities
The City of Bakers eld welcomed dozens of elected of cials and city
staff members from around the Central Valley as it hosted the South
San Joaquin Valley Division meeting of the League of California
Cities.
In all, 50 mayors, councilmembers and city managers from around
the Central Valley were in attendance for the meeting held at The
Padre in Downtown Bakers eld.

Those in attendance discussed shared priorities, as well as advocacy
for cities.
Hundreds of vaccines provided to pups
The monthly low-cost drive-through dog vaccination clinics
saw continued popularity as pet owners brought more than 160 of
their furry friends to Beale Park on March 8.

More than 280 total vaccinations and 79
licenses were provided.
In addition to those services, microchips
were also available free of charge with a
purchase of a license. They can also be
purchased individually for $10.

If you did not get an opportunity to visit this month’s low-cost
vaccination clinic, the next one is scheduled for Saturday, April 1 at
Jastro Park (2900 Truxtun Ave).

Fire ghters, law enforcement drop the gloves in annual
Guns & Hoses hockey game
Dozens of local re ghters and members of law enforcement hit the
ice on March 4 for the annual Guns & Hoses hockey game at
Mechanics Bank Arena.
Members of the Bakers eld Fire Department and Bakers eld Police
Department participated in the game, along with other local
agencies.

Ultimately, it was the re ghters who came out on top, winning 6-4.
The event successfully raised $7,300 for the Public Safety
Professionals Retreat, a six-day intensive retreat for rst responders
struggling with job-related PTSD/PTSI symptoms.

elds and concourses of Aera Park on a chilly Saturday morning,

While the teams of Bakers eld Southwest Baseball prepared for the
start of the spring campaign, they also helped celebrate the
extension of a partnership that made the grass they were standing
on and concession stand they patronized even possible.

In November 2022, the City of Bakers eld and Aera Energy entered
a second sponsorship agreement with the latter providing funding
for maintenance and expansion of the complex of 11 baseball
diamonds, stands, lights, equestrian trail and more.

The new agreement follows an initial sponsorship of $250,000 in
2007 to open the park through a joint partnership between Aera, the
City and BSWB. In 2013, Aera donated another $32,000 for the
purchase of seven scoreboards for the elds.

USA BMX Golden State Nationals
Visit Bakers eld is pleased to welcome the USA BMX Golden State
Nationals race this weekend, March 10-12.

More than 1,800 BMX racers along with
their families will converge on
Metro BMX to try and punch their ticket to
that coveted podium.
This is the second of two large races that
will have been hosted in Bakers eld this
past year, the other being the
USA BMX Fall Nationals that were held in
October and saw more than 1,500 racers.

Sports Destination Magazine.
Visit Bakers eld’s Sales Manager Matt Billingsley provides an
overview of our community’s soccer venues and the bene ts of
bringing soccer tournaments here.

Westbound Hwy. 58 to be shut
down for sign installation
Westbound Highway 58 at Chester Avenue
will be shutdown from March 13-16 for
overhead sign installation.
The closures will run from 10 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Westbound to Northbound 99 drivers will be detoured to exit at
Chester Avenue, turn right on Chester, turn left on Brundage Lane
then turn right on Oak Street. They will then turn left on California
Avenue and go right to enter the Northbound 99 on-ramp.
Westbound to Southbound 99 drivers will exit at Chester, turn right
on Chester, go left on Brundage Lane then turn left on Wible Road.
They will then turn right on Ming Avenue and go left to enter the
Southbound 99 on-ramp.
Real Road to be shut down to one lane
Real Road will be shut down to one lane between Stockdale Highway
and Elcia Drive from March 13-17 for the removal of falsework.
Flaggers will be on site directing traf c.
This closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and may include a
maximum of ve-minute full closures for the safe removal of steel
beams.
