With members of the Station 1 staff on hand, including front of ce
staff and fellow re ghters, a quartet of drummers and bagpipers
performed "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "America the
Beautiful".

"Oh, I love it. It's very rewarding," said Bakers eld Fire Battalion
Chief and bagpiper Tim Ortiz. "We're new, but we're learning tunes
and we're enjoying it. We're having fun. We're having a good time."

Granite Pointe Park playground rehabilitation
completed
The Recreation & Parks Department continues to upgrade
playground equipment at parks around the City.
This week Rec. & Parks completed installation of playground
equipment at Granite Pointe Park in Ward 7.
The $435,000 project is made possible thanks to the Public Safety &
Vital Services Measure.

Dozens attend home buyer workshop, future events on
tap
On Saturday, March 11, the R Street Community House was packed
with potential homebuyers hoping to learn more about what it will
take to ful ll the dream of homeownership.
Representatives from the Ventura County Community Development
Corporation were on hand to lead the workshop, discussing the ins
and outs of the Hope to Home program.
The program is awarded to state and local governments and
designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income
households. The program locally is administered through the
VCCDC.
The VCCDC announced last week the amount of homebuying
assistance offered through the Hope to Home program has

increased from a maximum of $23,000 to a max of $40,000. When
combined with VCCDC's other programs, homebuyers can access up
to $109,000 in assistance to purchase a home of their own in
Bakers eld!
Anyone interested in learning more about program should visit the
VCCDC website. Virtual workshops are scheduled for April 1, April 8
(Spanish) and April 22.
Youth Commission continues donation drive to help
support fellow students in need
The City's Youth Commission will continue accepting donations and
raising funds for fellow students in need at the Haggin Oaks Farmers
Market, 8800 Ming Ave. on Sunday, March 19.
Dozens of visitors to the farmers market stopped by the Youth
Commission's booth on March 12, dropping off school supplies or
making cash donations.

During this school year the Youth Commission decided its annual
project would be to hold a donation drive to help fellow students.
The Youth Commission has teamed with the Apple Core Project to
make the donation drive possible.

Traf c Advisories
Reverse traf c control planned on
Real Road
Real Road will be agged for one-way
directional traf c between Stockdale
Highway and Elcia Drive from Monday,
March 20 through Friday, March 24 as
construction crews remove falsework. A
single lane will remain open with aggers directing traf c. This
closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and may include a
maximum of ve minutes full closure for the safe removal of steel
beams.
