Questions were included that not only
asked what restaurants and retailers the
community would like to have (see below),
but also to nd out the community’s most
loved and frequented businesses.
The purpose of this survey was for City
staff to create a baseline for how residents viewed the Bakers eld
shopping and dining experience.
The majority of respondents felt strongly that the selection of
retailers and restaurants in Bakers eld could be more diverse.
Staff has reviewed the data and will, in line with the Economic
Development Strategic Plan, actively pursue a variety of options to
enhance the local shopping and dining experience.

City water customers reduce usage by 35% in March
The City's Water Resources Department reports that customers on
the Domestic Water System reduced their water usage by a
whopping 35% in March of this year compared to the same month
three years ago. That's more than twice the reduction the Governor
had requested up until March 24.
In March 2020, customers used 119.23 gallons per capita. Thanks to
a heavy and regular dose of rain, users cut that to just 77.69 gallons
per person last month. In fact, dating back to October 2022, DWS
customers have reduced their water usage by an average of 16.5%.
The City thanks everyone's efforts to continue conserving our
precious water supply!

Padre Hotel featured in Wall Street Journal
Bakers eld’s Padre Hotel is the subject of a glowing article in the
Wall Street Journal. The article is locked for subscribers only, so I
have attached a pdf le for your reading enjoyment.
In addition to its review of the Padre, the article also mentions “three
old-school eateries that continue to please” -- Luigi’s Mexicali and
Wool Growers. In the piece on Wool Growers, the writer mistakenly
refers to “Mayrie’s Beans” (they are Mayie’s, named for Mayie Maitia,
long-time owner and matriarch who died in 2021), and calls the
noted beverage “Pecan Punch,” which is correctly known as “Picon
Punch” (as it contains no nuts.)
