A system or portion of a combination system consisting of components and circuits arranged to monitor and annunciate the status of fire alarm or supervisory signal-initiating devices and to initiate the appropriate response to those signals.” The cell communicator is by definition a part of the fire alarm system. Alpha changed 7 cell communicators at 8200 Stockdale. A permit for each building is required. A construction permit is required for installation of or modification to fire alarm and detection systems and related equipment. Maintenance performed in accordance with this code is not considered a modification and does not require a permit. The fire code official shall require an approved fire alarm and detection system be installed in any occupancy with an occupant load of three hundred or more as an “other requirement” pursuant to Section 907.2 of this code. Permits are required for all 7 buildings at 8200 Stockdale hwy. I asked this question and got an answer before you got a badge. I called Ernie back in January 2020 right after the CAFAA and asked the question "Do we have to pull a permit if we change communication devices?" Ernie said "Only time a permit needs to be pulled is if you change the communication pathway types. Like... from POT's to cellular or Cellular to 2-way Radio, that is two different type of pathways." As a Contractor trying to say up with all of the different ordinances, we have to ask questions. That is why I asked the AHJ (Ernie) for the proper procedure and that's what I was told. Now, that I was told differently we will do as requested. Furthermore can you please provide us with the code section or ordinances section that backs up this new request? We are always striving to be better than we were yesterday. From that day moving forward if something was not "Same Manufacture" then a permit needed to be pulled.
