Memorial Day holiday
The City of Bakers eld's administrative
of ces, including City Hall North (1600
Truxtun Avenue), will be closed on
Monday, May 29 in observance of the
Memorial Day holiday.
The of ces will re-open at 8 a.m. as normal
on Tuesday, May 30.
Curbside trash and recycling services are not expected to be
impacted.
The City wishes everyone a safe holiday weekend!

With the holiday weekend and rising temperatures, the City of
Bakers eld reminds all residents and visitors that the Kern River is
experiencing historic water ows and discourages everyone from
entering the river.
It is important to remember the adage: Stay out, stay alive.
Notable Items
Spray parks open this weekend for summer season
The Recreation & Parks Department will
open all 10 City-maintained spray parks
this weekend, starting on Saturday, May
27.
Hours of operation will be from 11 a.m. to 6
p.m. each day, Tuesday through Sunday
through Labor Day.
All spray parks will be closed on Mondays
as a proactive measure for water
conservation and to provide staff an
opportunity to perform any maintenance
needed at the spray parks. The spray parks
will be open on Mondays when there is a
holiday observed: May 29 (Memorial Day)
and September 4 (Labor Day).

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (1000 S. Owens Street)
Greystone Park (5709 Mountain Vista Drive)
Jastro Park (2900 Truxtun Avenue)

City water system remains at Stage 2
Some City Domestic Water System
customers may have inadvertently
received a postcard from Cal Water
regarding the agency's recent shift from
Stage 2 to Stage 1 of their Water Shortage
Contingency Plan.
The City of Bakers eld remains at Stage 2
of its plan and DWS customers are
required to continue following the
restrictions within that plan, which are laid
out in the yer at right (click to enlarge).
The City and the Water Resources
Department appreciates all of our
customers' conservation efforts to this
point and we are seeing the impacts. Additional conservation tips
and resources are available on the City's website.
The restrictions remain in place until further notice.
More than 21,000 pounds of trash collected at May
pop-up event
The City of Bakers eld's Solid Waste Division hosted a pop-up large
trash item drop-off event on Saturday, May 13, collecting more than
21,000 pounds of trash and recycling.
The pop-up events are part of Bakers eld's Clean City Initiative and
are made possible thanks to funding from the Public Safety & Vital

Services Measure (PSVS), also known as
Measure N.
The May event was held at the Riverlakes
Ranch Community Center where 21,440
pounds of trash and recycling were
collected from 310 visiting vehicles.
In addition to the trash and recycling, 110
mattresses were dropped off, as well as
eight tires and more than 430 e-waste
items.
The City has hosted these events monthly since January 2020 so the
public can get rid of items too large to t in their normal trash bins.
The next pop-up events are set for *Saturday, June 10 at the Kaiser
Permanente Sports Village and 4200 Panorama Drive.

organization held their annual Hometown Heroes Banner ceremony
on Saturday, May 20 at the Amtrak Station in Downtown.

The new banners for 2023-24 were installed on streetlamps and
families were invited to come see their loved ones honored by the
City.

Bakers eld Mayor Karen Goh, State Senator Shannon Grove and
Assembly members Vince Fong and Dr. Jasmeet Bains spoke during
the event, as well as U.S. Navy veteran Jasmine Tatman.

The banners for 2022-23 were returned to families following the
ceremony.
EOA dumpster security pilot program
Businesses in the City's Economic Opportunity Area can now apply
for a free metal lid and gravity lock for three-cubic yard dumpsters.
Check the map below to see if your business is located in the EOA.

City recognized by PG&E for Emergency Load
Reduction Program
The City's Water Resources Department was recognized by Paci c
Gas & Electric during Wednesday's City Council meeting for its
efforts to help reduce stress on the state-wide energy grid.
PG&E representatives awarded Water Resources Assistant Director
Daniel Maldonado and Water Supervisor Tylor Hester a check for
more than $51,000 for their work in PG&E's Emergency Load
Reduction Program.
The Water Resources Department was able to identify "high grid
stress" and emergency areas that would bene t from the Emergency
Load Reduction Program. Those areas included ground water wells
that could have energy reduced or shut off completely during high
grid stress times. Hester was able to sign up 60 separate services
through the Emergency Load Reduction Program.

Overnight closures planned for
Hwy 99
Nighttime closures have been scheduled
for all lanes of southbound State Route 99
between State Route 58 and Ming Avenue.
The closures will take place nightly from
Tuesday, May 30 through Thursday, June 1
for the release of falsework. The closures
will begin at 11 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. California Highway Patrol will
be monitoring the construction zone.
During the closures, motorists will be detoured to exit at Stockdale
Highway. Turn left/east on Stockdale Highway, right/south on Wible
Road, right/west on Ming Avenue, then left to enter the southbound
State Route 99 on-ramp.
Construction schedules may be changed without notice due to
unforeseen circumstances. The Thomas Roads Improvement
Program apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause the
traveling public.
