4th of July Fireworks Show
The City of Bakers eld’s popular
Independence Day celebration and free
reworks show will be held at The Park at
River Walk on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
Attendees will be treated to live music
performances by The 95’s and The Habbits,
as well as recorded music courtesy of
KUZZ Radio at the Dignity Health
Amphitheatre starting at 6 p.m. prior to the
reworks.
Zambelli Fireworks will produce the reworks show, which this year
is sponsored by Sunbelt Rentals and Mechanics Bank Arena, Theater
and Convention Center.
The reworks show is scheduled to start at 9:15 p.m. Simultaneous
musical accompaniment for the show will be provided by KUZZ.

Fortunately, parents have options thanks to the City's Recreation &
Parks Department's summer camps at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
and Silver Creek community centers.
Both summer camps kicked off Monday, June 5 with dozens of
students lling both community centers, participating in arts & crafts
projects, playing in the gymnasium, on the playground and staying
busy.
Silver Creek's camp has weekly registration through the nal
session, which begins July 31. There is limited availability at MLK.
Anyone interested in either camp can call MLK at 661-322-9874 or

Silver Creek Community Center Summer Camp
All four City pools now open for summer season
This week the Recreation & Parks Department of cially kicked off
the summer season by opening up all four swimming pools for
recreational swim.
The pools at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jefferson and Silver Creek
parks, along with the McMurtrey Aquatic Center are now open
through the second week of August.
Cost is $4 per person or $13 for a group of four at McMurtrey and
$1 per person at MLK, Jefferson and Silver Creek. Children two
years and younger all get in free. All pools will be closed on July 22.

Rec. & Parks Dept. holding bathing suit drive
Looking to help those in need and to keep swimmers safe, the City's
Recreation & Parks Department will be holding a bathing suit drive
Thursday, June 15.
Anyone who drops off new or gently-used bathing suits from 1-3:30
p.m. will get free entry at any of the City's four swimming pools.

Summer weather is on the way and the City
of Bakers eld reminds all residents and
visitors that the Kern River is experiencing
historic water ows and discourages
everyone from entering the river.
The Bakers eld Fire Department rescued
three people from the Kern River last
weekend, thankfully avoiding a tragic end,
but underscoring the dangers of the river.
It's important to remember the adage: Stay out, stay alive.

City on hand for Bitwise resource fair
City representatives from Human
Resources and Technology Services were
on hand Wednesday, June 7 at a resource
fair for those impacted by furloughs by
Bitwise Industries.
The County of Kern hosted the event at its administrative building,
where representatives from the County, the Employment
Development Department, Community Action Partnership of Kern
and others were on hand to provide information, resources and
discuss employment opportunities.

BPD, City departments on display at annual Community
Day
Hundreds showed up to Jefferson Park to meet rsthand with
members of the Bakers eld Police Department and learn about
BPD's efforts to keep the community safe.

BPD hosted its second-annual Community Day at Jefferson Park on
June 3, showcasing aspects of the department, including its SWAT
team, its community relations team and animal control.

Pop-up large item trash events set for June 10
The City of Bakers eld's Solid Waste Division will host a pair of pop-
up large item drop-off events on Saturday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to
noon. The events will be held in the parking lots of the Kaiser
Permanente Sports Village (9001 Ashe Road) and 4200 Panorama
Drive, near the corner of Panorama and Columbus Street.

These events are part of Bakers eld's Clean City Initiative and are
funded by the Public Safety & Vital Services (PSVS) Measure, also
known as Measure N.
More than 21,000 pounds of trash and recycling were collected at
the event held on May 13, in addition to 110 mattresses, eight tires
and more than 430 e-waste items.

to complete an unexpired term on the Keep Bakers eld Beautiful

Committee (KBBC) due to the resignation
of Zechariah Garcia (Ward 2) alternate
member. The term runs concurrent with
the nominating Councilmember and will
expire in December 2024.
The Councilmember from the respective
Ward will nominate a resident of the City
of Bakers eld. The applicant for this recruitment will be nominated
by the Councilmember of Ward 5 and con rmed by a majority vote
of the full Council.
The KBBC recommends programs and activities to improve the
ecological and aesthetic value of Bakers eld through the proper
handling of solid waste, litter control and prevention, beauti cation,
education, and the recruitment of volunteers who will make a
positive difference in our community.
Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Of ce at City Hall
North (1600 Truxtun Avenue) and on the City’s website and should
be returned to the City Clerk’s Of ce. The position will remain open
until lled.

3767. Residents interested in serving on the KBBC are encouraged
to contact each City Councilmember regarding their interest and
quali cations.

Intersection reconstruction
planned at Stockdale Hwy & Allen
Rd
As part of the pavement rehabilitation
project on Stockdale Highway, the
intersections at Allen Road will be
reconstructed.
The reconstruction of these intersections will take place from 6 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10 and is expected to be completed the same

day. The entire rehabilitation project is expected to be completed by
July 11.
Traf c delays are expected as a result of this work. Drivers are
advised to use caution and to take alternate routes or allow extra
travel time through this area.
There may be temporary road closures at the Stockdale Highway and
Allen Road intersection during the reconstruction; however, detours
and alternative routes will be provided during these phases of
construction.
NB99 to EB58 connector set for closure
Nighttime closures have been scheduled for the northbound State
Route 99 to eastbound State Route 58 connector. The closures will
take place June 11-15 for the release and removal of falsework. The
closures will begin at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. California Highway
Patrol will be monitoring the construction zone.
During the closures, northbound to eastbound motorists will be
detoured to exit State Route 99 at California Avenue. At California
Avenue turn left/west then merge right to enter the southbound
State Route 99 on-ramp. Travel south along State Route 99 before
entering the eastbound State Route 58 connector ramp.
Section of Fairfax Road set for closure for paving
project

A stretch of Fairfax Road will be closed June 14-15 for a paving
project.
Fairfax will be closed between Alfred Harrell Highway and Paladino
Drive from 5:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Drivers are advised to use Panorama Drive eastbound to Fairfax
Road during the closure.
The City thanks the public for its patience and understanding during
the completion of these improvements.
Please note: Construction work may be postponed and rescheduled
without notice due to inclement weather and other unforeseen
conditions.
