importantly, safer.
City staff outlined the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan,
discussed timelines and showed off concept designs during a
community forum held Thursday, June 22 at City Hall South.

to support "low-income, energy-stressed communities” and identify
potential solutions to challenges in the local electric grid. One of
those areas is East Bakers eld.
Known as the federal Communities Local Energy Action Program
(LEAP) program 22 areas across the U.S., including the Bakers eld
region, were awarded technical assistance funding to support local
distressed areas.
The total project grant is for $350,000 and would cover the projects
such as energy ef ciency, weatherization and solar and storage
deployment projects.
On Wednesday, June 21, a community workshop was hosted by
partner agencies including the City, Building Healthy Communities
Kern, the Center for Strategic Policy Innovation, the Dolores Huerta
Foundation, the Kern Community College District and the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
The purpose of the forum was to learn from local residents about the
impact of power outages in their daily lives and identify potential
solutions to such challenges.
In total, three forums (one in East Bakers eld, Lamont, and Wasco)
were held this week.
Following the stakeholder forums, a site selection and analysis and
implementation plans, project completion is expected in the summer
of 2024.
