been appointed the new Water Resources Director, effective Oct. 2.

Groundwater Services Manager for the
Kern County Water Agency in Bakers eld.
She previously worked with the City of
Bakers eld’s Water Resources department
from December 2018 to September 2021.
“I am looking forward to returning to the
City of Bakers eld to join the leadership
team and support the City’s efforts to
provide water to the City’s residents as the
City continues to grow,” Budak said, adding,
"I am excited to help the Water Resources
Department continue to provide the best
service to residents and be proactive in
decision making and creative when
addressing challenges."
“Kristina brings a wealth of experience
both in the water industry as well as when it comes to the City’s
operations, having worked here for almost three years previously,”
City Manager Christian Clegg said. “She’s very familiar with the
City’s water rights ownership, and coming off a historic water year in
Bakers eld, we are very excited to have Kristina back to lead this
crucial department.”
Budak succeeds Art Chianello as Water Resources Manager, who
retired in September 2022 after 12 years leading the department.
Water Resources, Solid Waste staff participate in Water
Day
The Water Resources Department participated in Water Day at the
Kern County Fair on Thursday, Sept. 28, promoting water
conservation in the City (at right). Staff distributed materials on
rebate programs offered by the City, and promoted the Bakers eld
Mobile app to report water waste.

The Solid Waste Division also participated,
distributing materials on SB1383,
educating residents on composting and
recycling requirements in place.
Information was also provided on bulky
item pickups that the Solid Waste division
provides to City residents.
Blue Zones Adopt-A-Park
Part of Blue Zones Project Bakers eld's
mission is to help the community make
healthier choices, like utilizing local parks
to stay active.
The local Blue Zones chapter is utilizing the
Recreation & Parks Department's Adopt-
A-Park program and is holding monthly
cleanups at Centennial Park to help with
that mission.
"Part of the Blue Zones Project is we want
to help make our community healthier and
make healthier choices more accessible to everybody in the
community," said Melissa Rossiter, senior marketing specialist for
Blue Zones Project Bakers eld. "Cleaning up the park is just one way
that we can ensure that this park is going to be clean for people to
enjoy."
The Adopt-A-Park program recruits, trains and supports individuals
and groups who want to take an active role in keeping our more than
60 City parks healthy and clean for the entire community. Anyone

improvements along Monitor
Street School Corridor
Looking to make safety improvements for
the thousands of children attending school
on or near Monitor Street, the City is
seeking public input as it looks to secure
funding for future projects.

improvements along the Monitor Street School Corridor, which
stretches from South High School to the north on Planz Road down
to Golden Valley High School on the south end on Hosking Avenue.
The City will work to secure funds through the Active Transportation
Program, which is run by the California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans).

Monterey Complete Streets
Project
The City of Bakers eld is committed to
improving road safety and mobility for all
users to save lives and meet diverse needs
and challenges of our disadvantaged
communities.
The City is working to secure federal funds
for the Niles and Monterey Complete
Streets Project, which will transform these corridors into safer, more
accessible, and pedestrian-friendly routes using Complete Streets
strategies.
These strategies focus on traf c calming, ADA modi cations, raised
cycle tracks, and new trees to improve users’ safety and travel.

Traf c Advisories
Closure planned for NB Hwy 99
and NB99 to EB Hwy 58 connector
Nighttime closures have been scheduled
for all lanes of northbound State Route 99
between Ming Avenue and State Route 58.
This includes the full closure of the
connector ramp to eastbound State Route
58. The closures will occur each night from Sunday, Oct. 1 through
Thursday, Oct. 5 for the installation of overhead signs. The closures
will begin at 11 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. California Highway Patrol will
be monitoring the construction zone.
During the closures, northbound motorists will be detoured to exit at
Ming Avenue. Turn right/west on Ming Avenue, right/north on Wible
Road, left/west on California Avenue. Turn right to enter the
northbound State Route 99 on-ramp or the second right to enter the
southbound State Route 99 on-ramp to get to eastbound State
Route 58.
Please note: Construction schedules may be changed without notice
due to unforeseen circumstances. The Thomas Roads Improvement
Program apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause the
traveling public.
