A RESOLUTION OF THE BAKERSFIELD CITY COUNCIL TO SPONSOR THE
VETERANS DAY AND CHRISTMAS PARADES AND AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO CONTRIBUTE A PORTION OF
FUNDS FROM THE COMMUNITY EVENTS FUND FOR FISCAL YEAR 23-24.
WHEREAS, the City Council approved the budgeted amount of $150,000 for
the Community Event Fund for Fiscal Year 23-24 to be utilized for special events
and public gatherings that contribute to the quality of life and vibrancy of the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City has a policy for contributions and in -kind support for
events that benefit the community; and
WHEREAS, the policy allows for recommendations for event sponsorship of
larger community -wide events that allow the City to offset costs to incentivize
events that achieve the goals of the policy; and
WHEREAS, the City has reviewed and agrees that a portion of the
Community Events Fund should be used to sponsor both of the Veterans Day and
Christmas parades; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Day and Christmas Parades are large community -
wide events that are aligned with the City's mission and goals that benefit the
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein
by reference.
2. The City Council finds that the Veterans Day and Christmas parade
events are aligned with the City's mission and goals and benefit the
community.
3. The City Council approves the City's sponsorship of the Bakersfield
Veterans Day and Christmas parades and authorizes the City
Manager, or his designee, to contribute a portion of funds from the
Community Event Fund to offset costs of the 2023 Veterans Day and
Christmas parades.
