City seeks assistance for eviction prevention services
The City and regional partners have implemented numerous
solutions in response to the impacts of homelessness and emergency
shelter needs. Addressing the number of people entering
homelessness is a priority. One cause of homelessness for some of
the unhoused is tenant evictions.
In an effort to address this cause - and to prevent more people from
becoming homeless - the City plans to launch an Eviction Prevention
Program which will include an awareness campaign to offer tenant
education workshops about their rights, to provide mediation
services between tenants and landlords when necessary. This
campaign will also make available legal aid for low-income tenants
encountering housing issues. This pilot program will be supported
with $350,000 in funding.
The City is accepting applications through Dec. 15, 2023 from
organizations that specialize in Community Outreach and have the
ability to provide education workshops, as well as applications from
organizations to provide legal services. The selected organization
will facilitate this program on behalf of the City.
