Kern County Water Agency marks historic Water Year
with video retrospective
The 2023 Water Year was historic for Kern County, Bakers eld and
various local water agencies. Remarkable spring runoff was almost
400% of average, totaling about 1.8 million acre-feet of water
coming to Lake Isabella. Following that surge into the lake, local
water agencies managed the ow from the dam through Bakers eld,
recharging much of that water (600,000 acre-feet) in Kern County
and City groundwater.
The Kern County Water Agency recently released a video
chronicling those extraordinary efforts this year, including hearing
from Bakers eld's Assistant Water Resources Director Daniel
Maldonado on how the City managed the additional water through
the Kern River.
