drive to collect hygiene items, snacks, and school supplies to support
families and teens living in local motels
Staff recommends the Youth Commission continue discussing and
planning the annual Youth Commission project to be completed no
later than June 30, 2023.

SUMMARY REPORT
a. Adoption of the October 10, 2022, Youth Commission minutes
Motion to approve the minutes from the October 70, 2022, meeting by
Commissioner Resolme and seconded by Commissioner Tarango. Motion
unanimously approved.
4. NEW BUSINESS
a. Youth Commission subcommittee presentations, discussion, and vote
concerning the annual project topics under consideration for
FY 2022-2023
Presentations were given and each group answered questions about their
proposed project. Presentations were made in the following order:
Extracurricular Activities for Our Youth, by Commissioners Bell, Kakarla,
Tarango, Batth, and Garcia.
4. NEW BUSINESS continued
JJ's Legacy, by Commissioners Beardsley, Webster, and Brar
Student -Driver Safety Project, by Commissioners Taft, Simpson, and Tran
Motion to move the last presentation for the next meeting by
Commissioner Resolme seconded by Commissioner Beardsley. Motion
unanimously approved.
5. STAFF COMMENTS
Management Assistant Gutierrez stated he enjoyed the presentations and is
looking forward to hearing the last one.
Associate Attorney Villanueva suggested update regular Commissioners who
were absent on the presentations that were given, so that all Commissioners
would be informed and ready to vote.

SUBJECT: Continue Youth Commission subcommittee presentations, discussion,
and vote concerning the annual project topics under consideration for FY
2022-2023
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Youth Commission consideration, discussion, and final vote for the topic to
be completed for the FY 2022-2023 annual project.
BACKGROUND:
At the October 24, 2022 special Youth Commission meeting, the Youth Commission heard
presentations by three of the four previously established subcommittees on issues including:
1. Educating local students on the many extra curricular activities around the City including arts
and sports to promote increased social interaction
2. Collaborate with JJ's Legacy regarding the importance of organ donation, with a focus on the "Got
the Dot" campaign for recently licensed teen drivers
3. Collaborate with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to educate teens on the importance of driver
safety, including distraction -free driving, and knowledge of defensive driving techniques
The final presentation will provide information and consideration of a collaboration with the Applecore
Project Inc. Bakersfield to plan and implement a donation drive of basic necessities for children living
in hotels
