5. STAFF COMMENTS
Management Assistant Gutierrez stated that this was a very productive
meeting and thanked everyone for the presentations. He said everyone did a
great job, the presentation were all fantastic ideas, and he could tell everyone
worked very hard on them, and he would like to see a combination of all three.
He asked the commissioners to keep a few things in mind when going
forward: be mindful of the time frame you have left to put the event
together and be cautious when planning that the event isn't too large or
too broad. A lot of the work, when planning these events falls on the city
staff, so be realistic about turnaround times when requesting assistance.
The project deadline is June 30, which falls within the fiscal year. In July, the
City Council always gets an update, such as a video, to show the result of
the activity. If you need anything or have any questions, contact Nathan.
Deputy City Attorney Zambrano shared her thoughts. She noted some things that
she's heard each of the commissioner's say that might help when it's time to vote
is: What is your actual focus and/or product? You have talked about a PSA, a
pamphlet that has resources in it, a seminar that has someone speaking. You've
talked about an activity fair, booths, and a clothing drive. Each one of those
things could stand alone and be its own project, regardless of topic. It might be
helpful when you do take a vote to make a motion that specifically asks for one
of those end projects, then as Nathan said, you can develop details on what that
really includes.
