MEETING OF APRIL 18, 2022

1. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Bell, Commissioners Vargas(A), Garcia, Resolme, Mizar, Beardsley (A)
Absent: Commissioners Burrows, Morgan, Taft (A), Toler (A), Kakarla (A)
2. PUBLIC STATEMENTS
Barbara Sandrini, Assistance League, stated that they are ready to help with the
donation drive
3. SUMMARY REPORT
a. Adoption of the March 28, 2022, Youth Commission minutes
Staff recommends adoption of the March 28, 2022, Youth Commission
minutes.
No action was taken as there was no quorum. Item differed to next
meeting.
4. NEW BUSINESS
a. Continue planning the annual Youth Commission project for FY 2021-2022 to
be completed no later than June 30, 2022, Staff recommends the Youth
Commission continue planning the annual project in coordination with the
Assistance League of Bakersfield.
No action was taken as there was no quorum.
The commissioners decided that since the actual date of the drive is after
school is out, they would contact several of the high schools for permission to
have a PSA read each morning during announcements and have a
donation collection box placed at each high school. Students could then
drop off their items at the school and the commissioners would pick up
boxes from schools.

Management Assistant Gutierrez reminded the Commissioners that they
need to first get permission from the individual high schools before anything
goes up for advertising. He suggested talking to the head Councilors for
permission. He reminded the Commissioners that he has already receive
permission from the Kern High School District for the event.
Barbara Sandrini from the Assistance League remined everyone that there
were strict guidelines that will need to be followed when using their logo.
At this point Commissioner Bell reviewed the following assignments that the
Commissioners agreed to take care of:
Commissioners Vargas, Toler and Kakarla will contact the local TV stations.
Commissioners Bell and Resolme will work on digital flyer.
Commissioners Mizar and Beardsley are work on a 15 second PSA for radio
stations.
Nathan reminded the commissioners to be specific in the information that
are put on the flyer.
Chair Bell reminded everyone to have their project completed for the next
meeting and for everyone to check their emails often.
5. STAFF COMMENTS
Management Assistant Gutierrez stated he thought it was a good meeting
even without quorum. He asked Chair Bell to get any additions to him and
he would get out the assignments and logo information for Assistance
League out to everyone for Monday.
He asked that everyone please be at the meeting on Monday April 25, 2022.
6. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Garcia said she was happy to be there.
Chair Bell welcomed Commissioner Garcia to the Youth Commission. She asked
that everyone have their assignments completed by Monday's meeting.
7. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 4:58 p.m.
