ROLL CALL Present: Chair Bell, Commissioners Garcia, Resolme, Taft (A), Burrow, Toler (A), Mizar, Beardsley (A), Morgan Absent: Commissioners Vargas (A), Kakarla (A) 2. PUBLIC STATEMENTS Barbara Sandrini introduced her colleagues from the Assistance League, Lila Mettler, and Sandy Spray. 3. SUMMARY REPORT a. Adoption of the May 16, 2022, Youth Commission minutes. Staff recommends adoption of the May 16, 2022, Youth Commission minutes. Motion by Resolme, second by Mizar to approve the minutes from May 76, 2022 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. 4. NEW BUSINESS a. Finalize planning the annual Youth Commission project for FY 2021-22. Staff recommends the Youth Commission continue planning the annual project in coordination with the Assistance League of Bakersfield. Chair Bell announced that Commissioner Kakarla finally heard back from the Bakersfield Californian. They will run a story prior to the event. They asked for more information on the event and for a couple of photos showing students putting donated items in a donation box. Chair Bell asked that Commissioners to try to get the word out. The flyer is being reviewed by the Public Information Office. That will be ready soon. Barbara Sandrini suggested asking for the schools lost and found items, if possible. She said that if the Commissioners decide to ask for, and are Bakersfield California, May 23, 2022, Page 2 4. NEW BUSINESS continued allowed to take lost and found items, Commissioners will not be required to do anything else but turn the items in. Chair Bell reminded everyone the event is on June 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Please be there by 9:30 a.m.) at the Bargain Box parking lot on R Street (look for the green awning over the doors). You can park on the street. She also reminded everyone that the Assistance League crew would be taking pictures, after the meeting. 5. STAFF COMMENTS Assistant Manager Gutierrez congratulated everyone for sticking it out, despite everyone's busy schedules. He reminded everyone to read their email and the the minutes so you can approve them at the next meeting. Stay in touch and notify him if you can't attend the meetings. He also thanked the Assistance League for all of their help. Deputy Attorney Zambrano reminded everyone that even though this is the last meeting before the event and school being out, she reminded the commissioners that the meeting calendar was adopted for the whole year. That means the Youth Commission meetings are still expected to take place on the fourth Monday of every month. There are many reasons that the meetings may not take place, so try not to disappear completely. 6. COMMISSION COMMENTS Chair Bell thinks the commission had an amazing year even though they got off to a slow start. She thanked everyone for their participation and thanked the Assistance League or their help. Commissioner Beardsley said he had fun getting to know some of the other commissioners. Commissioner Taft thanked the staff for all their time and for keeping things running 7. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 4:58 p.m.
