The consummate customer service professional, everyone who
interacted with him at the visitors center on Truxtun Avenue (near
the Amtrak Station) left knowing a little more about Bakers eld and
probably with a story to tell their family and friends when they went
home.
Wishing you the best in retirement - We'll miss you David!

Bakers eld Fire task force team participates in
emergency drill
This week the Bakers eld Fire Department
engaged in a Mobilization Exercise
(MOBEX) designed to evaluate the Fire
Department’s Regional Task Force (RTF-
11) capabilities.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Olive Drive Fire
Training Facility, the MOBEX simulated a
6.4-magnitude earthquake, including collapsed buildings and
trapped victims with injuries ranging from non-injured to deceased.
The drill took several months to plan and was funded by the
California Of ce of Emergency Services (Cal OES) which provided
the department with $77,000 for equipment speci c to the drill as
well as personnel costs.
The MOBEX was evaluated by Cal OES and the California
Specialized Training Institute which critiqued the RTF-11’s abilities
in several categories: dispatch, deployment, search and rescue
operations, and demobilization. The RTF-11 was also judged on its
use of existing software to plan, assess, and coordinate search and
rescue operations using both national and state models. Bakers eld’s
RTF-11 is one of only 11 regional task forces in the state of
California capable of deploying up to 30 trained members statewide
for a variety of emergencies including earthquakes, large storms,
oods, dam failures, terrorist activities, and hazardous materials
releases.

Overall, Bakers eld Fire ghters performed well during its rst
MOBEX and received positive feedback from the drill’s evaluators
regarding individual and team performance, especially in the areas of
communication, crew cohesion, collaboration, accountability, and
trust. Areas for improvement were also identi ed by evaluators in
Tuesday’s drill and Cal OES will be presenting a detailed review in
the coming weeks. The department intends to reinforce its strengths
and develop a plan and timeline for addressing the areas identi ed
for improvement.
