Attn: Alan Lakin,
The Facility removed a 6,000 gallon diesel UST on 3/21/2022. The site has
failed to properly remove the product line from the tank to the generator.
They also failed to complete the required soil sampling under the product
line. This product line runs underneath an emergency exit and cannot be
removed until construction of the new hospital tower is completed. Alan
Lakin (Facilities Director with Mercy Southwest) has stated that the
tentative completion date for the tower is December 2025. The remaining
section of piping must be removed by December 2025. A new permit will
be required, an inspector with Bakersfield Fire Department must be on site
to verify the piping has been removed and soil samples are taken. In the
event the piping can be removed before December 2025 please
contact the Bakersfield Fire Department Prevention division. Failure to
comply may result in the City of Bakersfield Fire Department to pursue
administrative and/or civil penalties against owners and operators.
Title 23 California Code of Regulations Chapter 16 Sections 2670 and
2672. Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.7 Section 25298(c).
