On Thursday, nearly two dozen residents
attended an informational meeting at the R Street Community
House, hearing from Park Rangers Manager Billy Owens and Tim
Viall, with the American River Bike Patrol in Sacramento.
The local bike patrol would be community-led with support from the
City and County of Kern.
The bike patrollers would provide emergency bike repair, rst aid,
and trail safety and serve as trail ambassadors, helping trail users
nd their way and enjoy their trail experience safely.
The Recreation & Parks Department is currently taking feedback for
the bike patrol through an online interest form. Click the button

City, Blue Zones launch Love Your
Park campaign, event set for
Saturday
This weekend the City, our Recreation &
Parks Department, Blue Zones Project
Bakers eld and other local parks districts
will gather to kickoff the Love Your Park
campaign at Lowell Park.
In greater Bakers eld, there are 90 parks,
including more than 60 maintained by the
City.
A number of those are underutilized, for various reasons, and we'd
like to change the perceptions.

Part of the goal behind the Love Your Park campaign is to make our
parks a hub of activity and promote health and well-being for future
generations.
Join us Saturday, April 13 at Lowell Park (800 4th Street) from 9-11
a.m.
MLK Community Center plays host to BCSD basketball
program
The City's Recreation & Parks Department is continuing its
partnership with the Bakers eld City School District, offering free
athletics programs.

Currently, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center hosts an
afterschool basketball program.

As many as 80 students from Fremont, Jefferson, Longfellow, Pauly
and Bessie Owens elementaries participate in the program, which
takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"It's been a great experience for the kids. It teaches them teamwork,
great work ethic, how to work in a group with each other, winning
and losing in the proper manner and the proper sportsmanship," said

Concrete pouring begins for Jastro Park pickleball
courts
The new pickleball courts at Jastro Park are coming along nicely.
This week crews began pouring concrete as the resurfacing project
continues.
The complete removal and replacement of the courts began in
January and is expected to be complete in May. The project was
delayed due to inclement weather.
This $926,000 project was made possible thanks to the Public Safety
& Vital Services Measure (Measure N).

Combating vandalism, new fencing installed at
Jefferson Park
In an effort to combat ongoing vandalism, the City's Recreation &
Parks Department has replaced a chain link fence around the
Jefferson Park pool with a new wrought iron fence.
Along with the fence, new ADA-compliant sidewalks have been
installed around the outside perimeter of the pool fence.

The project totaled a little more than $570,000 and was made
possible thanks to the Public Safety & Vital Services Measure
(Measure N).

AFTER
McMurtrey slides pass safety inspection, ready for
summer!
Summer is creeping up on us and will be here before you know it.
When you're ready to cool off, you'll be able to do so while enjoying
the slides at the McMurtrey Aquatic Center.
This week, State of California Safety Engineers conducted an annual
structural and operational inspection of the two slides at McMurtrey,
giving both their certi cations.
The inspection included a walkthrough of the facility, a detailed
assessment of each slide, a lifeguard demonstrated spinal rescue,
and a review of records.

More than 275 vaccines given to pups at April drive-
thru clinic
More than 150 dogs were able to get
updated vaccines, microchips and licenses
at the latest low-cost drive-thru dog
vaccination clinic put on by the Animal
Control Division.
Animal Control reported 151 dogs at the
event on April 6 with 277 vaccines being
administered.

In all, 91 licenses were provided along with 38 microchips.
The next low-cost drive-thru dog vaccination clinic is scheduled for
May 4 at Beach Park, 3400 21st Street. It will be the last clinic until
October due to rising temperatures.
South High students learn about career opportunities
with BFD
This week current members of the Bakers eld Fire Department met
with potential future re ghters at South High School.
On Wednesday, re ghters from Bakers eld Fire Station 5 attending
South High's annual career day, speaking with several students who
plan on pursuing a career in the re service.
Several students, who never considered a re ghter career, gained
insight into what the job entails and may now consider the eld as a
career option.
Said Bakers eld Fire Battalion Chief and Public Information Of cer
Tim Ortiz of the department's goal: "We are in search of good people
with servant’s hearts. We can train anyone to become a good
re ghter."
City, Columbia University seeking input on Agrivoltaics

The City of Bakers eld continues to focus on economic development
and is always seeking innovative ways to better our community.
In partnership with Columbia University’s Capstone team, the City is
looking to understand community and organizational perceptions of
Agrivoltaics, exploring potential bene ts and challenges.
Agrivoltaics combines solar energy production with agricultural
activities, aiming for ef cient land use and resiliency.
Please take a few minutes to ll out our short survey so your

Earlier this month Visit Bakers eld

Request For Quali cations released seeking support for
General Plan Update
The City of Bakers eld has released a
Request For Quali cations (RFQ) from
Community-Based Organizations (CBO) to
support and conduct community outreach
and engagement related to the Bakers eld
2045 General Plan Update project.
The City will partner with up to four CBOs
through a contract agreement not to
exceed $5,000 each, for a total of $20,000. The purpose of this
desired agreement and formation of the Community-Based
Outreach Team is to facilitate collaboration between CBOs and the
City to assist in community engagement and information-gathering
efforts related to Bakers eld RISE.

The City recognizes that CBOs possess a deep understanding of
Bakers eld communities due to their grassroots involvement, direct
interactions with residents, and localized knowledge stemming from
their active engagement within the community. The City seeks CBO
partnerships to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to
community engagement that re ects residents' diverse perspectives
and needs city-wide.

Temporary closures planned next
week for 19th, R and N streets
Beginning next week, parts of R Street,
19th Street and N Street will be closed
temporarily as the California Water
Service performs work in the area.

Work will start at 8:30 a.m. each day on Monday, April 15 and
Tuesday, April 16. Closures will be required as follows:
R Street between 20th and 19th Street
19th Street between R and N Streets
N Street between 20th and 19th Streets
This portion of the project is expected to be completed by end of day
Tuesday.
Detours will be in place at the nearest street before the closures.
Traf c delays are expected as a result of the project and road
closures. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the
closures and to plan for additional travel time if driving through the
area.
