This week Mayor Karen Goh, along with
fellow Big City Mayors, were in
Sacramento meeting with state leaders,
including Governor Gavin Newsom about
homelessness in California and future funding.

The Big City Mayors speci cally called on the state to fully fund
Round 6 of Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention funding of
at least $1 billion and to make it permanent.
“Despite the unrelenting efforts of cities, much work remains to be
done to nd lasting solutions," said Mayor Goh during a press
conference Tuesday. "The scope and scale of our mental health,
substance use, and housing crisis demands audacious action with
intentionality.
"Cities look to Sacramento to build upon the progress made by CARE
Court, SB 43, and other legislative solutions. The human suffering of
this crisis cries for stable investments and policy changes to address
the root causes of our state’s number one challenge."

Big City Mayors to Call on State to Make Homelessness Funding Permanent
City of cials meet with State leaders during Cal Cities
summit
Last week, City of Bakers eld of cials, including Mayor Karen Goh,
Vice Mayor Andrae Gonzales (Ward 2) and Councilmember Eric
Arias (Ward 1) and Assistant City Manager Gary Hallen, were in
Sacramento for the City Leaders Summit, an annual event hosted by
the California League of Cities to promote city interests in the state
capital.
The City of Bakers eld met with its legislative delegation and state
departments to discuss homelessness, infrastructure, retail theft and
other important issues.
Among those City of cials met with include Assemblymembers
Vince Fong (District 32) and Jasmeet Bains (District 35), California
Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary
Tomiquia Moss and California Department of Transportation Chief
Deputy Director Mike Keever.

Bakers eld Police Department
launches 'Ask Your BPD' online
tool
The Bakers eld Police Department has
launched a new online tool aimed at
creating additional communication with
the community.
"Ask Your BPD" can be found on the City's
website and is an "ef cient way for our
community members to provide feedback
and ask police department or law
enforcement related questions," according
to a press release from the Bakers eld
Police Department.
"Timely and effective communication between the Bakers eld Police
Department and the community we serve is critical in our continuing
efforts to earn our community's trust.

beautifying our community.

On Wednesday, Amazon BFL1 of cially adopted Quailwood Park,
making it the 14th local group to adopt a park within the City.

BFL1 volunteers held a cleanup at Quailwood Park.

As part of the program, Amazon BFL1 will organize cleanups at the
park, spending 16 hours a month helping to maintain Quailwood
Park.

Lowell Park gets new sidewalks, tness equipment
Our Recreation & Parks Department recently completed new
enhancements at Lowell Park, which include the installation of new
ADA-compliant sidewalks, four new tness equipment stations and
new trash/recycling receptacles.
The four new tness equipment stations include a cardio walker,
chin-up bar, sit-up bench and a captain’s chair. Each tness station
has an integrated label on it explaining how the equipment is to be
used.
This $86,000 project was made possible thanks to the Public Safety
& Vital Services Measure (Measure N).

Garces Circle enhancements set to begin Monday
A new enhancement project for Garces Circle is set to begin Monday,
April 29, requiring temporary and intermittent closures to the road
and adjoining streets through August.
The project includes new enhancements, including:
Pavement
Curbs and gutters

Storm drains
Enhanced pedestrian crossings
Enter and exit islands
Improved lighting
Road closures expected as a result include
30th Street, South Frontage Road, North
Frontage Road and Chester Avenue. Traf c
on Golden State Avenue will also be
impacted during construction. Drivers will
still have road access to businesses and
residences in the area.
Construction is scheduled to run from 7
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, however times
may be adjusted due to unforeseen
circumstances. Detours will be in place at the nearest street
approaching the closures.
Traf c delays are expected as a result.
