The City's Water Resources Department is
set to increase water ows near the Park at
River Walk ahead of Saturday's Kern River
Parkway Festival.
Our Water Resources Department will

that will generate enjoyable ows
downstream of the Bellevue Weir near River Walk.
The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
Hometown Heroes Banner ceremony set for Saturday,
May 18
The community will gather Saturday, May
18 for the Hometown Heroes Banner
ceremony, honoring local members of the
military, currently serving our country.
It’s taking place at 9 a.m. at the Amtrak
Station, 601 Truxtun Ave., behind Visit
Bakers eld and Beale Library.
Anyone who had a banner from the
previous cycle will be able to collect it.
The new banners will hang near the Amtrak Station over the next
year.
The Hometown Heroes Banner program is made possible thanks in
part to the Kern River Blue Star Moms and Proforma Solutions.
City's spray parks set to open ahead of Memorial Day
weekend
The weather is starting to heat up and summer is right around the
corner, so you'll want to nd a way to refresh and keep cool.
The City's Recreation & Parks Department will be able to help as its
set to open its 10 spray parks on Friday, May 24. Spray park hours of
operation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, Tuesday through
Sunday.

All spray parks will be closed on Mondays
for regular maintenance and to reduce
water consumption.
The spray parks will be open on Mondays
when there is a holiday observed; in this
year’s case, May 27, Memorial Day & Sept.
2, Labor Day. The spray parks will be open
through Labor Day Sept. 2.

Nearly 23,000 pounds of trash collected at latest Bulky
Item Pop-up event

The City's monthly Bulky Item Pop-up
events continue to be an effective method
in helping prevent illegal dumping.
The Clean City Initiative event held May 11
at 15050 Stockdale Highway saw nearly
23,000 pounds of trash collected.
Along with the trash, 6,420 pounds of
metal and 1,000 pounds of recycling were
collected.
So far in 2024, the City's events have seen nearly 90,000 pounds of
trash collected.
Kern River Bike Patrol established
With more than three dozen individuals interested in participating,
the Kern River Bike Patrol is set to become a reality.
On May 9, volunteers gathered at the R Street Community House to
discuss next steps in the process, which will include identifying
leadership among the Bike Patrol volunteers, holding trainings and
ultimately hitting the Kern River bike path.
The Kern River Bike Patrol will fall under the umbrella of the
National Ski Patrol and will be supported locally by the City of
Bakers eld and County of Kern.

Swim lesson registration underway for Rec. & Parks
The City's Recreation & Parks Department is holding registration for
summer swim lessons.
Recreation & Parks will hold four 2-week sessions at Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr., Jefferson and Silver Creek pools and at the
McMurtrey Aquatic Center.
The rst session is scheduled to begin June 4. Registration dates will
stagger every two weeks to allow the public multiple opportunities
to register.
