The City's administrative of ces, including
City Hall North (1600 Truxtun Avenue) will
be closed Monday, May 27 in observance
of the Memorial Day holiday.

City of ces will re-open as normal on
Tuesday, May 28 at 8 a.m.
Trash and recycling pickup services will not be impacted by the
holiday.
Historic Preservation
Commissioner honored for
decades of service
“I really didn’t realize it’s been 21 years,”
said Susan Stussy, Historic Preservation
Commissioner, who was recently honored
for her more than two decades of service
on the commission.
Stussy is leaving the Historic Preservation
commission and was recognized by the
City of Bakers eld and her follow
commission members.
While on the commission she provided
editorial support for Historic Preservation Commission projects
including educational materials and website development, was a
committee member of the Bakers eld Landmark Plaque Program in
partnership with the Kern County Historical Society, engaged with
property owners on the bene ts of historic designation and
attended many community events to educate the public on our
historic sites.
She served with dedication and passion, and we thank her for her
service!

City's spray parks now open through Labor Day
The City's spray parks are now open, just in
time for the three-day weekend.
Our Recreation & Parks Department
of cially opened its spray parks today, May
24.
The City operates 10 spray parks, which
will be up and running from 11 a.m. to 6
p.m. each day, Tuesday through Sunday
through Labor Day on Sept. 2.
All spray parks will be closed on Mondays
for regular maintenance and to reduce
water consumption.
The spray parks are located at:
Beale Park, 500 Oleander Drive
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1000 S. Owens Street
Greystone Park, 5709 Mountain Vista Drive
Jastro Park, 2900 Truxtun Ave.
Jefferson Park, 801 Bernard Street

City pools opening June 4 through August
The City's four swimming pools are also set
to open just in time for summer break.
The City's Recreation & Parks Department
will open up its pools beginning Tuesday,
June 4.
Check out the list of pools with dates and
times of operation:
McMurtrey Aquatic Center, 1325 Q St.
June 4 - Aug. 11
M-Th., 1-3:30 p.m.
Sat. & Sun., 1-5 p.m.
$4 per person or $13 for a group of four.
Silver Creek pool, 7011 Harris Road
June 4 - Aug. 9
T-F, 1-3:30 p.m.
Sat. & Sun., 1-5 p.m.
$1 per person.
Jefferson pool, 801 Bernard St.

Swim lesson registration underway for Rec. & Parks
The City's Recreation & Parks Department is holding registration for
summer swim lessons.
Recreation & Parks is holding four 2-week sessions at Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr., Jefferson and Silver Creek pools and at the
McMurtrey Aquatic Center.
The rst session is scheduled to begin June 4. Registration dates will
stagger every two weeks to allow the public multiple opportunities
to register.

Rec. & Parks, BCSD basketball season wraps up

The City's Recreation & Parks Department wrapped up another
successful school year in which it partnered with the Bakers eld City
School District to provide free after school activities to students.
Bessie Owens Elementary wrapped up the basketball season
recently, going a perfect 6-0 to claim the BCSD Elementary
Basketball championship. Bessie Owens beat Longfellow Elementary
22-21 to claim the title.
Along with Bessie Owens and Longfellow, BCSD had students from
Freemont, Jefferson and Pauly elementary schools participate.
As part of the after school program, the City's Recreation & Parks
Department covers the cost of uniforms and equipment, while
hosting games at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
Fire ghters hold demonstration for local students
This week members of the Bakers eld Fire Department visited St.
John's Lutheran School to help calm any fears students may have
when coming across re ghters.
During emergencies there have been instances of children running
away from fully-equipped re ghters. The visit was an effort to get
students comfortable with re ghters.
