STANDARD GRADING NOTES:
1. ALL GRADING SHALL CONFORM WITH CITY OF BAKERSFIELD GRADING
REQUIREMENTS AND THE CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE, THE STANDARDS
AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE SOILS ENGINEER, AND APPENDIX J OF THE
CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE.
2. ALL GRADING SHALL CONFORM TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND
REQUIREMENTS OF THE UPDATE TO GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
INVESTIGATION REPORT BY KRAZAN AND ASSOCIATES, DATED FEBRUARY
3, 2021 PROJECT NO. 022-21011. THIS REPORT SHALL BE INCORPORATED
INTO THIS PLAN AND AND MADE A PART HEREOF AS IF SPELLED OUT IN ITS
ENTIRETY HEREON.
3. AREAS TO BE GRADED SHALL BE CLEARED OF ALL VEGETATION,
INCLUDING ROOTS AND OTHER MATERIAL UNSUITABLE FOR STRUCTURAL
FILL, AND SCARIFIED AS RECOMMENDED ON PRELIMINARY SOILS REPORT.
4. IN AREAS TO RECEIVE FILL, THE EXISTING SOILS SHALL BE SCARIFIED AND
COMPACTED TO A MINIMUM OF 90% MAXIMUM DENSITY. THE FILL
MATERIAL OBTAINED FROM OTHER AREAS ON THE SITE MAY BE PLACED IN
THIN LAYERS AND COMPACTED TO A MINIMUM OF 90% MAXIMUM DENSITY.
WHERE FILLS ARE PLACED ON SLOPES, A KEY SHALL BE CUT AT THE TOE
OF THE SLOPE AT LEAST 10' WIDE AND INTO FIRM NATURAL SOILS. AS THE
FILL MATERIAL IS PLACED UP IN THE SLOPE, BENCHES SHALL BE CUT AT
REGULAR INTERVALS IN TO FIRM NATURAL SOILS.
5. PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF FILL MATERIAL, THE PREPARED AREA SHALL BE
INSPECTED AND APPROVED BY A CITY GRADING INSPECTOR AND THE
SUPERVISING SOILS ENGINEER.
6. CUT AND FILL SLOPES SHALL NOT EXCEED A GRADE OF 2 HORIZONTAL TO
1 VERTICAL UNLESS CERTIFIED STABLE BY THE SOILS ENGINEER, AND
APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
7. FILL MATERIAL, APPROVED BY THE SUPERVISING SOILS ENGINEER, SHALL
BE PLACED IN LIFTS NOT EXCEEDING 6" IN COMPACTED THICKNESS,
MOISTENED OR DRIED AS NECESSARY TO NEAR OPTIMUM MOISTURE
CONTENT, AND COMPACTED BY AND APPROVED METHOD.
8. FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE COMPACTED TO A MINIMUM OF 90% MAXIMUM
DENSITY AND SO CERTIFIED BY TESTS AND REPORTS BY THE
SUPERVISING SOILS ENGINEER.
9. ALL SOILS WITHIN 1.5' OF FINISHED GRADE IN THE STREET SHALL BE
COMPACTED TO 95% RELATIVE COMPACTION.
10. UTILITY TRENCH BACKFILL WITHIN THE STREET SECTIONS SHALL
CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD.
11. THE ROADBED SUBGRADE WILL BE SCARIFIED AND COMPACTED AFTER
INSTALLATION OF ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES, AND BEFORE
PLACEMENT OF AGGREGATE BASE IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE UNIFORM
COMPACTION.
12. SURFACE DRAINAGE SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 2% EXCEPT FOR PAVED
SURFACES AND POSITIVE DRAINAGE SHALL BE MAINTAINED AWAY FROM
ALL STRUCTURES AND SLOPES.
13. ALL UNSUITABLE SOILS MATERIALS AND RUBBISH AND DEBRIS RESULTING
FROM GRADING OPERATIONS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE JOB SITE
AND DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.
14. SLOPE CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING TERRACING SHALL BE
SPECIFIED BY THE SUPERVISING SOILS ENGINEER PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION OF GRADED SLOPES.
15. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EMPLOY ALL LABOR, EQUIPMENT AND METHODS
REQUIRED TO PREVENT HIS OPERATIONS FROM PRODUCING DUST IN
AMOUNTS DAMAGING TO PROPERTY, CULTIVATED VEGETATION AND
DOMESTIC ANIMALS, AND/OR CAUSING A NUISANCE TO PERSONS
OCCUPYING BUILDINGS IN THE VICINITY OF THE JOB SITE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY
DUST RESULTING FROM HIS OPERATIONS. DUST ABATEMENT MEASURES
SHALL BE CONTINUED UNTIL RELIEF IS GRANTED BY THE GRADING
INSPECTOR.
16. ALL SLOPES OVER 3' HIGH SHALL BE PLANTED WITH PERENNIAL
VEGETATION APPROVED BY THE CITY AND SHALL BE DENSE AND
GROWING PRIOR TO FINAL INSPECTION.
17. EARTHWORK QUANTITIES: (DOES NOT INCLUDE OVER EXCAVATION)

FILL: 150 CY
EXCESS DIRT EXPORT TO BE STOCKPILED AT THE GRADING
CONTRACTOR SITE IN THE 100 BLOCK OF WILLIAMSON WAY,
BAKERSFIELD.
NOTE: EXACT SHRINKAGE, CONSOLIDATION AND SUBSIDENCE FACTORS
AND LOSSES DUE TO CLEARING OPERATIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED.
ESTIMATED EARTHWORK QUANTITIES ARE BASED ON THE DIFFERENCE
AS SHOWN ON THE PLAN, OR SUBGRADES, AND SHOULD VARY
ACCORDING TO THESE FACTORS.
18. PRIOR TO ANY SUBGRADING THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR SCHEDULING A PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING WITH THE CITY AND
OTHER AFFECTED AGENCIES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY
AT LEAST 24 HOURS PRIOR TO ANY WORK BEING PERFORMED, AND
ARRANGE FOR INSPECTION. CALL 661-326-3720
19. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTION OF ALL
EXISTING SURVEY MARKERS DURING CONSTRUCTION. ALL SUCH
MONUMENTS OR MARKERS DISTURBED SHALL BE RESET AT
CONTRACTORS EXPENSE.
20. ALL TOP SOIL SHALL BE STOCKPILED FOR LATER DISTRIBUTION OVER THE
LOTS AND SLOPES. ALL CUT AND FILL SLOPES SHALL BE HYDROSEEDED
UPON COMPLETION OF GRADING. IRRIGATION MAY BE NECESSARY TO
ACHIEVE DENSE AND GROWING VEGETATION PRIOR TO FINAL INSPECTION.
A BOND MAY BE REQUIRED IF THE WEATHER IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR
HYDROSEEDING.
21. ALL ROUGH GRADING AND FINAL SOILS REPORT SHALL BE COMPLETED
AND APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER PRIOR TO ISSUANCE OF ANY
BUILDING PERMITS.
22. ANY TEMPORARY STOCKPILES OF EARTH SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE
CITY, AND SHALL NOT OBSTRUCT DRAINAGE OR CREATE BLOWING DUST.
23. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT AN EROSION CONTROL PLAN AND
INSTALL THE IMPROVED DRAINAGE DEVICES FOR WORK DURING THE
RAINY SEASON OF OCTOBER THROUGH MARCH.
24. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT FILE A NOTICE OF INTENT (NOI) AND A
STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN (SWPPP) WITH THE
REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD (RWQCB) PRIOR TO THE
COMMENCEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION.
25. THE DESIGN ENGINEER SHALL EXERCISE SUFFICIENT SUPERVISOR
CONTROL DURING GRADING AND CONSTRUCTION TO ENSURE
COMPLIANCE WITH THE PLANS, SOILS REPORT, SPECIFICATIONS, AND
CODE WITHIN HIS PURVIEW.
26. GRADING WORK WILL BE SUPERVISED AS ENGINEERED GRADING IN
ACCORDANCE WITH APPENDIX J OF THE CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE.
27. TOTAL AREA DISTURBED 4.08 ACRES
28. ANY AND ALL EASEMENTS MUST BE RECORDED BEFORE PLANS CAN BE

EROSION CONTROL GENERAL NOTES
1. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, CALL PAUL WADE @
661-619-7007
2. A STAND-BY CREW FOR EMERGENCY WORK SHALL BE
AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES DURING THE RAINY SEASON.
NOVEMBER 1ST THROUGH APRIL 15. NECESSARY
MATERIAL SHALL BE AVAILABLE ON SITE AND
STOCKPILED AT CONVENIENT LOCATIONS TO
FACILITATE RAPID CONSTRUCTION OF EMERGENCY
DEVISED WHEN RAIN IS IMMINENT.
3. EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHOWN ON THIS PLAN MAY
BE REMOVED WHEN APPROVED BY THE GRADING
INSPECTOR IF THE GRADING OPERATION HAS
PROGRESSED TO THE POINT WHERE THEY ARE NO
LONGER REQUIRED.
4. GRADED AREAS ADJACENT TO FILL SLOPES LOCATED
AT THE SITE PERIMETER MUST DRAIN AWAY FROM THE
TOP OF SLOPES AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH
WORKING DAY.
5. ALL SILT AND DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM ALL
DEVICES WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER EACH RAINSTORM
AND BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.
6. A GUARD SHALL BE POSTED ON THE SITE WHENEVER
THE DEPTH OF WATER IN ANY DEVICE EXCEEDS 2 FEET.
THE DEVICE SHALL BE DRAINED OR PUMPED DRY
WITHIN 24 HOURS.
7. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE APPROVED BY THE GRADING
INSPECTOR, ALL REMOVABLE PROTECTIVE DEVICES
SHOWN SHALL BE IN PLACE AT THE END OF EACH
WORKING DAY OR ON WEEKENDS WHEN THE 5-DAY RAIN
POSSIBILITY FORECAST EXCEEDS 40%.
8. ALL LOOSE SOIL AND DEBRIS WHICH MAY CREATE A
POTENTIAL HAZARD TO OFFSITE PROPERTY SHALL BE
REMOVED FROM THE SITE AS DIRECTED BY THE
GRADING INSPECTOR.
9. THE PLACEMENT OF ADDITIONAL DEVICES TO REDUCE
EROSION DAMAGE WITHIN THE SITE IS LEFT TO THE
DISCRETION OF THE FIELD ENGINEER.
10. DESILTING BASINS MAY NOT BE REMOVED OR MADE
INOPERABLE BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1 AND APRIL 15 OF
THE FOLLOWING YEAR WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE
GRADING INSPECTOR.
11. EROSION CONTROL DEVICES ARE TO BE MODIFIED AS
NEEDED AS THE PROJECT PROGRESSES AND PLANS OF
THESE CHANGES MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL
AS REQUIRED.
12. ERODED SEDIMENTS AND OTHER POLLUTANTS MUST BE
RETAINED ON SITE AND MAY NOT BE TRANSPORTED
FROM THE SITE VIA SHEET FLOW, SWALES, AREA
DRAINS, NATURAL DRAINAGE COURSES OR WIND.
13. STOCKPILES OF EARTH AND OTHER CONSTRUCTION
RELATED MATERIALS MUST BE PROTECTED FROM
BEING TRANSPORTED FROM THE SITE BY THE FORCES
OF WIND OR WATER.
14. FUELS, OILS, SOLVENTS AND TOXIC MATERIALS MUST
BE STORED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR LISTING AND
ARE NOT TO CONTAMINATE SOIL AND SURFACE
WATERS. ALL APPROVED STORAGE CONTAINERS ARE
TO BE PROTECTED FROM THE WEATHER. SPILLS MUST
BE CLEANED UP IMMEDIATELY AND DISPOSED OF IN A
PROPER MANNER. SPILLS MAY NOT BE WASHED INTO
THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
15. EXCESS OR WASTE CONCRETE MAY NOT BE WASHED
INTO THE PUBLIC WAY OR ANY OTHER DRAINAGE
SYSTEM. PROVISIONS SHALL BE MADE TO RETAIN
CONCRETE WASTES ON SITE UNTIL THEY CAN BE
DISPOSED OF AS SOLID WASTE.
16. TRASH AND CONSTRUCTION RELATED SOLID WASTES
MUST BE DEPOSITED INTO A COVERED RECEPTACLE TO
PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF RAINWATER AND
DISPERSAL BY WIND.
17. SEDIMENTS AND OTHER MATERIALS MAY NOT BE
TRACKED FROM THE SITE BY VEHICLE TRAFFIC. THE
CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE MUST BE STABILIZED SO AS
TO INHIBIT SEMIDENTS FROM BEING DEPOSITED INTO
THE PUBLIC WAY. ACCIDENTAL DEPOSITIONS MUST BE
SWEPT UP IMMEDIATELY AND MAY NOT BE WASHED
DOWN BY RAIN OR HOSED DOWN.
