"This is amazing. It's so inspiring to see so many community residents
who are here today to help celebrate the opening of these pickleball
courts," said Vice Mayor and Ward 2 Councilmember Andrae
Gonzales during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 5.
Improvements include a brand-new playing surface for 12 pickleball
courts, one tennis court and one handball court, as well as new shade
structures for players and observers, and Americans with Disabilities
Act sidewalk access.
"(It's the) fastest growing sport in the nation, across the nation.
There's so many folks that are playing, both from youth all the way to
seniors," said Recreation & Parks Director Rick Anthony.
Bakers eld is among the top 10 U.S. cities with the most pickleball
courts (per 10,000 residents) available in public parks.
This project was made possible thanks to the Public Safety & Vital
